Yup…and with an Iowa high school prospect, if that Iowa State offer is commitable…then that could change everything. The ‘clones may be waiting to see how Clubb plays at camp - or next fall - after his season ended with injury last fall.

I made the assumption he's referring to Eli, especially with Texas A&M listed in his "top 21." Their NIL pool is crazy deep, but results haven't translated on the field, no matter how much cash they've thrown at transfers.

    Screw te Cyclones!
We kicked their ass already. Do we need to do it again so people remember the 'pecking order' of college football in the heartland? Sick of these 'NDSU wannabes'.

If used in the recruiting strategy, could the portal actually help land more highly rated prospects? Come to NDSU and you'll develop and play sooner, with the option now on the table to go to a higher level in a couple years? or we get them in, develop them and they want to stay?

I don't think NDSU's recruiting strategy will ever be "come here so you can play right away" unless things change quite a bit with the program's culture. That said, I don't necessarily think coaches should shy away from pointing out to recruits that playing at NDSU gives you visibility not only to the NFL but to every high level college football program in the country if they're recruiting a player who feels jaded that they didn't get "higher level" offers. If you can get them on campus for their first few years and they tear it up maybe they do transfer up or maybe, a la guys like Grey Zabel and Cole Wisniewski, they decide to stick around when they could go elsewhere for more $$$.

I didn't mean that the coaches strategy would be "come here and you play right away". (I worded it poorly). I meant from the mindset of a prospect, thinking they might play quicker at an FCS team and get developed at an extremely high level. Pretty much what you said in Bold, lean into it. I'd guess they have.

Ron Erhardt told me when I told him about a school who said I could possibly start as a freshman. He said---now I want you to think about this. How good is a team that would start a freshman??? They must not have any depth and or they arent telling the truth. He then said--Pat even with all your talent you wont start here as a freshman. You might play some but that is no guarantee. Just being upfront and honest with you. We have players who have been here developing for 3-4 years. Do you remember what you were like as a freshman in HS? Whats the difference between then and now? Huge difference isnt it. Now think what these players are like after being here for 3-4 years. Was quite and eye opener.
