    Default Louisiana Road Trip

It begins with 3 vs SELA, but not tonight,. as rain has forced this evening's contest to become part of a double header tomorrow. This from the SELA website:

"HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball program's weekend series opener against North Dakota State was rained out Friday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Southeastern (9-5) and the Bison (2-9) are now scheduled to play a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday as part of the Super Lion Saturday festivities. Both games are slated for coverage on ESPN+.

Fans can listen to the game broadcasts in the Hammond area on 90.9 The Lion. In addition, an audio stream is available online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience, TuneIn and MyTuner Radio apps. Both the TuneIn and MyTuner apps are compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late-model automobiles. Search for KSLU 90.9 FM in the TuneIn app.

Super Lion Saturday features a koozie giveaway for the first 200 fans at baseball. Also, in action throughout the day on campus will be the SLU beach volleyball, softball and football teams. In addition, Northshore Media Group will host a special remote broadcast outside Strawberry Stadium on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7/WFPR 1400 AM from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Right-hander Brennan Stuprich (1-1, 1.13) draws the starting nod for the Lions in the series opener. The redshirt junior from Kenner, Louisiana will be opposed by NDSU redshirt sophomore left-hander Nolan Johnson (0-0, 3.00).

Saturday's second game pitching matchup features redshirt junior right-hander RHP Dakota Lee (0-1, 2.45) for SLU and junior right-hander Logan Knight (0-2, 7.11) for the Bison.

Will Kinzeler (1-0, 10.12), a senior right-hander from Covington, Louisiana, earns the start on the mound in the series finale. He will be opposed by NDSU freshman right-hander Landon Koenig (0-2, 10.32).

The Bison dropped all four games in a weekend series at No. 6-ranked Oregon State last weekend in Corvallis, Oregon.

Colton Becker (.382), Jake Schaffner (.345) and Sam Canton (.282) pace NDSU at the plate. Becker leads the squad with six extra-base hits and Canton owns a team-high 9 RBIs."

The weatherman is co-operating today and Game 1 of the series with Southeastern Louisiana is on time. It's Junior RH pitcher Brennan Stuprich (1-1) on the mound for SELA vs Nolan Johnson, a sophomore lefty for the Bison.
The Bison put a runner in scoring position on a 1-out double by Jake Schaffner but strand him in place for a scoreless top of the first. The Lions are not as kind, as a 2-out single by Ryan Brome is followed by a 2-run homer to right by Shea Thomas and it is 2-0 SELA after one. The Bison cut the lead in half with a solo homerun to right by Will Busch and the score becomes 2-1 Lions after 3 innings.
The Bison pulled even when Davis Hamilton led off the top of the 5th with a homerun to right. Going into the 6th, Bison starter Nolan Johnson has 5 strikeouts and has retired every batter he has faced since allowing that 2 out homerun in the 1st inning. The streak of consecutive outs ended at 14 in the bottom of the 6th with a one out walk, but the Lions failed to advance the runner and it's still 2 -2 into the seventh. The Herd has a chance to shake things up, as Sam Canton leads of the 7th with a double and Davis Hamilton follows with a walk. Carson Hake is the batter and flies out to shallow center, failing to move the runners up. That is all for SELA starter Stuprich as Junior right-hander Lance Lauve enters with 1 out in the 7th. He will face Kyle Law, who hits a ball that the 3rd baseman can't handle to load the bases. Will Busch hits a 2-run single to left and the Bison take a 4-2 lead. Cadyn Schwabe blooped a single to left to re-load the bases with one out. Schaffner talks a bases loaded walk to score run number 5 for the Herd. James Dunlap reached on a fielder's choice to drive in the 4th run of the inning, and the Bison lead 6-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th.
An error on right fielder Kyle law puts the lead-off hitter Thomas on second and a single by Jake Haze makes it a 6-3 game. But Johnson ends the rally by striking out the next 3 hitters and the Herd lead 6-3 going into the 8th inning. Skyler Reidinger comes on in the 8th to pitch for NDSU, closing the book on Nolan Johnson at 3 runs (2 earned), on 3 hits, with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. It's time for the bullpen to step up and support this great effort by the Bison starter. Skyler does his job with a 1-2-3 inning, and the Bison are 3 outs away from a good start to the road trip. Joey does his job and the Bison take the 1st game of the series by a score of 6-3.

Time for game two of the twin bill, with red shirt Junior Logan Knight (0-2) on the mound for the Bison and red shirt Junior Dakota Lee (0-1) pitching for the Lions.
After a scoreless first inning, Jack Steil puts the Bison on the board, leading off with a solo homerun in the top of the second. The Lions tie it with a single, a hit batter, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. 1-1 after two innings. Bison score 1 in the 3rd on a single by Garret Hill, a walk to Schwabe, groundout and a wild pitch and the Lions get 1 in the bottom half on a double by Jake Haze and an RBI single by Shea Thomas. 2-2 entering the 4th inning. SELA adds 1 in the bottom of the 4th on a double, stolen base, and another sac fly. 3-2 Lions after 4 innings. James Dunlap has a 2 out bases loaded double to clear the bases in the 5th and the Bison lead 5-3 at the halfway point of the game.
Leland Wilson came on to pitch the 6th for the Bison and surrendered 5 runs on 4 hits, with the big blow being a 3-run homer by Jake Haze and the Bison lead became an 8-5 deficit after 6 innings. The Bison answered with 1 in the 7th on a fielders choice grounder by Dunlap. Wilson was relieved by Reese Ligtenberg, who held the Lions scoreless in the home half of the inning and it's an 8-6 SELA lead heading into the 8th. Jackson Rodriguez does his job and game 2 goes to the Lions 8-6.

Final game of the 3-game series with SELA at Hammond, LA has FR RH Landon Koenig (0-2) on the mound for the Herd vs SR Will Kinzeler (1-0) for the Lions.
Southeastern Louisiana scored solo runs in the 2nd and the 4th before Carson Hake cut the lead in half with a homerun to center leading off the 5th. The Lions answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning and led 4-1 after 5 innings of play. The Herd scored 1 in the top of the 7th and SELA came back with 4 in their half of the frame and the lead ballooned to 8-2 heading into the 8th.
Seven may be considered a lucky number for most people, but the Bison go one better, scoring eight runs in the top of the 8th inning, highlighted by a Carson Hake grand slam to right. In all, the frame consisted of 5 walks, 2 hit batters, 2 errors, 1 stolen base, 1 wild pitch, and ONE HIT. But Lady Luck can be fickle, as SELA has good fortune in the ninth inning with a bloop single that falls between the centerfielder and the second baseman, a routine ground ball that hits 3rd base and hops over the fielder's head, and a seeing-eye ground ball single that drives in the winning run and gives the Lions a walk-off win 11-10. The ice pack may be the friend to many this evening, as both pitching staffs combined for 10 HBP in the game, five each side. Well, it's on to a pair with LSU at Baton Rouge. Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. Go Bison!!

NDSU (3-11): 10 runs on 7 hits, with 1 error and 7 LOB
Southeastern Louisiana (11-6): 11 runs on 17 hits, with 2 errors and 6 LOB

    Batteries:
Bison: Landon Koenig, Julien Hachem (6), Seth Thompson (7), Hunter Rosenbaum (7), Skyler Riedinger (8), Joey Danielson (9) and Noah Gordon, Will Busch (8)
Lions: Will Kinzeler, Justin Williams (7), Dalton Aspholm (8), Hayden Robb, (8) Larson Fabre (8) and Connor O'Neal, Bailyn Sorensen (8)

    WP: Larson Fabre (1-0)
    LP: Joey Danielson (0-3)

    Homeruns:
Bison - Carson Hake (3) - Solo to center in the 5th, Grand Slam to right in the 8th
    Lions - None

NDSU: Cadyn Schwabe 2-3, 1 RBI, Carson Hake, 3-5, 2 HR, 5 RBI, James Dunlap 1 RBI
    SELA: Jake Haze 3-4, 3 RBI, Ryan Brome 3-5, 2B (2), 3 RBI, Shea Thomas 3-4, 2B (2), 1 RBI, Christian Garcia 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, Gray Rowlett 2-5, Peyton Woods 2B, Lakin Polk 1 RBI, Bailyn Sorensen 1 RBI

If the weather keeps up this year, there could be some great weather to watch baseball in Fargo in April.

LSU has a freshman on the team whose Dad is from Sherwood, ND and went to NDSU.

    I know, cool story bro.
