North Dakota State, a football team the big boys of college football should avoid like the plague, helped christen a $90 million renovation to Snyder Family Stadium — including a statue of famed Kansas State coach Bill Snyder himself — by taking a sledgehammer to the place.Bob Lutz, The Wichita Eagle, August 30th, 2013
I guess I feel compelled to post in the basketball forum again, about once a year.
Richman's "program" and "culture" continue to make me not want to watch or even care about men's basketball at NDSU. The post that made me come out of the woodwork was the fact he's been here 10 years. WTF I don't care how many SL Championships he's been in or even won. His on court product is crap. His so called culture is a damn blackbox(the opposite of culture imo) and his stupid voice and the shit his says just grind my ass.
The only reason I know the team sucks again this year or about Boden is through headlines I ran across while reading other news.
When is Matt leaving again? Can't be soon enough.
I sure hope the talk about Cook not liking ML and wanting a change is directly related to shit extensions of coaches like this and the mediocrity of the basketball program. Read the article about MSUM and how Peters saw an opportunity in basketball and his reasoning for it. If an AD at a small DII university across the river can figure this out NDSU should be embarrassed at the mess of a program that is men's basketball right now.
Grow some balls, realign a bit of $$ and go grab some mid-major exposure!!
Yeah the guy is a 5 time national coach of the year, assuming there's non-basketball reasons he's stayed put. That's the worst part about Dave, with all his family local and being an ND guy I'm not sure he'd ever want to leave even if given an opportunity, I think he's going to have to be forced out and I don't know if that'll ever happen.
Two things come to mind.
1. This is a classic "the tail is wagging the dog." The NDSU basketball program is never, ever solely about a coach. It is about the program. If he has been dabbling in mediocrity for the most part for 10 years, that is not enough. Are the Sports Administration people afraid of rocking the boat? Dave Richman's feelings and the fact that he is a NoDak boy with "family" here is more important than the basketball program? I think of the beautiful Scheel's Athletic Center and how sorely underused it is because men's basketball is not inspiring enough to draw people in.
2. Are we mice or men? I don't know when his contract is up but this is ridiculous. Matt Larsen was hired for a reason, and it was not to be too chicken-shit to do what needs to be done. If something is clearly not working, that is Matt Larsen's job to do something about it, even if it is painful to do.
