Exactly how I see it. If we don’t figure out the portal now, it only gets worse as an FBS team, because there are more “peers” and “superiors” (P5) poaching FBS teams left and right. Either have to keep the pipeline full of fresh talent to step up, or have to backfill from the portal. Maybe both.
NDSU TO FBS. HAVEN'T WE WON ENOUGH?![]()
Rob's narrative was that athletics continue to drive up higher ed costs..... for that he uses data from an article that shows NDSU is the literally lowest public funded athletic program in the FCS. Who's the one trying to push a narrative? How pathetic was his reach??? He lists the indoor practice facility as an issue... then quickly throws out it was privately funded though.... then whines about it distracting from efforts to fund raise for academics. Twisted logic only a UND fan could fully appreciate.
Slap those two graphs for public funding on a common graph and let's really illustrate the difference in public funding support between the two North Dakota universities. Also lets adjust NDSU's public funding for inflation and lets see how flat that trend line looks then.
An unbiased take at that data would be that NDSU has kept it's state funding almost constant while managing to explode it's athletics funding through purely private funding and other revenues. UND..... not so much.
However, fatty hates college athletics.... and obviously the Indoor Football Practice Facility. He's obsessed with whining about it every chance he can insert it into a topic even when there is no reason to.
North Dakota State, a football team the big boys of college football should avoid like the plague, helped christen a $90 million renovation to Snyder Family Stadium — including a statue of famed Kansas State coach Bill Snyder himself — by taking a sledgehammer to the place.Bob Lutz, The Wichita Eagle, August 30th, 2013
