What I've found is that if you make an honest mistake (like calling a rancher "dude"), people will give you a pass. And if you are doing it just to give them crap, they also give you a pass if you have the gift of getting away with that kind of thing. Except for calling people Francis... that was my great grandpa's name and he still HATED being called Francis.
