Just as my high school math teacher would say.... Please show your work.
I'll show mine... Currently there is about 65 G5 teams. One of them will be put into the CFP starting in 2024.
So by definition, the odds can not be any worse than 1/65 (or 1.5%). Now, of those teams, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that NDSU would be at least in the top half in terms of on-field performance. So, that would make it 1/33 (or around 3%).
Still not high odds however much better than what the daycare provider thinks.
This is true. The odds do change based on the quality of the conference. Each year there will be changes as to who is the best conference. Another big factor is OOC scheduling and winning some of those games. It's a crap shoot. That being said, NDSU would likely be battling it out against a couple dozen schools for that spot... Kind of like trying to win a National Championship in the FCS a decade ago.
The winner of the highest rated conference doesn't even have to be the best team in that conference. There are upsets in conference championship games from time to time. It isn't just 30 teams in the hunt every year..
Wanting a potential chance at a CFP slot is a worthy goal but you probably should have a bunch of other goals as well to move to FBS.
The highest rated conference champion out of the G5 will make the playoff. There will only be 5 winners to pick from each year. The goal would be to win the conference and then be the highest rated out of those 5 schools. At the beginning of each season, NDSU would have about 65 teams to beat out. They come from difference conferences with different schedules but one will be guaranteed to make it each year.
The auto bid goes to the champion of the highest rated G5 "conference.". It doesn't go to the highest individual rated G5 champion unless said school is the champion of the highest rated conference as a whole..
Yea so if Mountain West in 2026 is the HIGHEST RATED G5 CONFERENCE
and the MWC Championship is NDSU vs Boise State then we have a 50% chance of being that 1 CFP G5 Representative.
So ^^^^ THAT GAME would be the biggest in NDSU football history.
Win that and the #12 vs #5 seed ( TCU this year or Kansas State) would be the Biggest game in NDSU Football history.
GIMME THAT CHANCE plus 3 Huge OOC games in BIG TIME stadiums with a great conference schedule of Boise, Colo St, Wyoming, Air Force, Fresno ???
DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH its a NO BRAINER!!
NDSU TO FBS. HAVEN'T WE WON ENOUGH?![]()
How are all the other teams viewed at NDSU? Hell how are all the teams at UND viewed outside of hockey?
Although I do agree with many of the FBS folks, what is really needed for people to get excided about NDSU football is for them to lose... The fan base isn't hungry anymore.
The weather in Fargo keeps the undesirables out.....
...Which is why I live near the Twin Cities.
