They ain't getting into the MAC or MWC. Without either of those 2 as an option then the G5 playoff carrot is the only thing that would get me remotely interested in the move.

My opinion is that i'd rather be in ANY FBS conference than what we have now. We only get 2-3 good games annually and as of next year will be competing against maybe 1-2 teams annually for a championship. If the option was out there i would join the shitty CUSA over what we will have in the future. Those shitty schools are still lightyears ahead of anyone else we'd play on the regular in the FCS. Establish ourselves in the FBS and look to move to a different/better conference.

This is a program that doesn't need to "establish itself" football wise. If the offers aren't coming to join a conference now, they won't be there by winning in a shitty CUSA either. Biggest concern is how it'll fracture the fan base? I can see non regional FBS games easily drawing like the 1st 2 playoff games. Not sure I'd even drive the 3 hours to watch a CUSA matchup with SHSU...that's where I'm at. I'll keep driving for UNI, UND, SDSU, USD etc.

Been talking about G5 playoffs for years, and I doubt that's gonna actually happen anytime either.

Look CUSA isn't impressing anyone, but if NDSU were to go there and dominate, win some good OOC games and finish top 50 like we're already doing as a member of FCS... that is WAY more attractive to a strong G5 conference. Perception is literally everything, and even now, perception of any team with an FCS label is not good.

Right now if I'm MAC or MW I'm asking myself if NDSU can handle the additional: 22 scholarships, commensurate women's sports funding, increased travel, increased coaches' salaries, etc. We all know the answer is very likely yes, but NDSU blowhards aren't the ones making the decision.

That all being said, I don't really know where I stand on wanting to be a part of CUSA and even more so it doesn't matter because they aren't looking to grow into the midwest so it's all moot. I'm probably in the camp of "maybe to CUSA, no to Independent, and yes to any other option."
Mountain West, hope for the best.

Yep, we're at the top of the MVFC and shouldn't settle for anything other than a Big 10 or Big 12 invite.

I'm for anything that isn't Indy, just don't think scheduling is viable as an indy. FCS football is in bad shape right now and there is really little hope for the future. I know some that live in Valley bubbles struggle to see it but FCS football is getting more and more niche and regional...Eventually that is going to have some bigger consequences that people won't like.
NDSU to the FBS always. In all ways.

Dead on! FCS has been a great opportunity for NDSU to grow it's football program into a larger regional and even a small national brand. But the ability for the program to grow further in FCS is no longer there. As it is currently structured, our future plans for the entire athletic department are largely based on the football program and the revenue it generates. Without the ability for the football program to grow, the improvements that we have seen to the AD since moving up from DII to D1 will likely slow and maybe even stop eventually. Not the end of the world, I suppose, but given the momentum that has been built that possibility is disappointing to me.

Big 10 had me rolling over. That's a good one.

Agreed but moving to a CUSA type conference could have massive long term implications as well without a G5 playoff.

Would the implications be more or less negative than FCS? My estimation is that the bottom is likely about the same but the ceiling is much higher in FBS. That's why to me your long term plan can't be to stay FCS.
