Well I guess for starters they would be making it known what their intentions are. You “just get in” by looking for a future conference affiliation or membership. All one can do is seriously inquire about the interest of adding NDSU into another conference. If there is no interest at all then I guess we know how the story will go.

you're really connected to the athletic department. Can you fill us in? What are NDSU's intentions? Publicly the statement has always been that FCS is good and that they like where they are. Have there been discussions with conferences?

Look, I wish it weren't so...but I think the impression is largely correct. What else can we go by but the external and internal statements made by ML and DB. I'm an NDSU employee. I've had the chance to sit next to DB at a luncheon and I asked him, point-blank, questions about going FBS while giving my pitch to do so. I like DB. I've always been a fan. But on this issue, I was always politely rebuffed. He signaled no interest in NDSU going FBS, and always had reasons why we can't. And ML seems like a nice guy. I've served on an athletics-related committee in which I asked him point-blank about going FBS while again, giving my pitch to do so. Like DB, he had all the reasons why it can't be done and signaled no indication that any effort has been made to even explore it with other conferences.

Sure, it is possible that conversations were going on behind the scenes all along, even while the public and private statements suggested that there was no interest in FBS. But don't you think it is more likely that all the public and private statements on FBS actually represent the position of NDSU leadership? I don't agree with ML and DB on their lack of perceived need to go FBS, but I think they are decent and honorable people. Therefore, unfortunately, I'm compelled to take them at their word.

my professor friend that was a CHAIR at NDSU said the same thing as you are echo-ing They are scared to death to change the status quo, they are already losing professors, funding etc, they just wanna ride this out as long as they can.

There's a reason why Coach Matt Entz has talked FBS more and Jeremy Jorgenson quit, they know we aint pushing the envelope.
