Pass was late, underthrown, and misplaced inside the numbers when it should've been outside. Probably was a tough ask for Stick to come off the bench cold and immediately make a 40 yard throw across the field but it was there.... just needed a better throw.

Correct. Just like the Darius pick6 last year was all on Rodgers.

October 29th, 2011: Northern Iowa @ North Dakota State

The 3rd UNI game to make my top 25 list and (spoiler alert) the highest ranked regular season FCS game. I like to refer to this game as the day the Fargodome crowd's testicles dropped as there were unofficial readings cited in the paper that the decibel level in the dome went north of 110 at times. UNI came into the game ranked #2 at 6-1 ands NDSU was ranked #3 at 7-0. It was a one score game throughout until late in the 3rd quarter when UNI freshman RB David Johnson fumbled inside his own 5 after a Travis Beck hit and Kyle Emanuel (both of whom also freshmen) scooped it up and fell into the south endzone giving the Bison a 24-13 lead. They held on to win 27-19 beating the last MVFC team they had yet to top since moving to D1 (losing their first 3 D1 matchups with UNI). Sophomore QB Brock Jensen was on point in the game completing his first 10 passes and went 22-25 for 204 and a TD overall. The Bison offensive line allowed only 1 sack in the game a year after an emabarrasing performance in Cedar Falls where they allowed 11 sacks. The win signified that NDSU football had arrived as a prime national title contender in the FCS. It moved the Bison to 8-0 and a subsequent #1 ranking in the next week's polls.

I'm pretty sure this is the one that post-game I kicked the front door of Billiards open and started hollering and Craig Bohl immediately left out the back. Players staid pretty sure women had Halloween costumes on. Used to be cool anyways.

    No voice for a week.

Yep... when we finally beat UNI, we knew we had a shot at the title. Loved this game.

December 17th, 2011: Georgia Southern @ North Dakota State (FCS playoff semifinals)

At this time the Bison were the young upstart team/program and the opponent was the traditional power in 6-time FCS/D1AA champion Georgia Southern. As I recall there was some consternation when NDSU got the #2 seed over Georgia Southern that year and therefore the homefield advantage in this game which led to quite a war of words between the two fan bases the week of the game (which is when "ButtBama" originated since GSU had played Alabama fairly tough in their final regular season game that year). In the game the Bison took a 14-7 lead into the halftime break but on the opening GSU possesion of the 2nd half Bison safety John Pike forced a fumble recovered by Travis Beck inside their own 5 yard line which led to a 96 yard TD drive capped by a monstrous Brock Jensen 55 yard run to give the Bison a 21-7 lead and they never looked back from there. This was a legendary game for the QB Jensen who battled exhaustion due to flu symptoms the night before and morning of the game to run for a career high 94 yards. The Bison defense led by safety Colten Heagle's 15 tackles (9 solo) stymied GSU's vaunted triple option offense recovering 3 fumbles as the NDSU rush offense nearly doubled up GSU's rushing total en route to a convincing 35-7 win. It advanced the Bison to their first FCS Championship Game.

And with the flu game, the legend of Brock Jensen was born. Wasn’t this also the game Heags has the club cast on one of his hands?

I remember when we got to the 4th quarter and had the game wrapped up, I booked my Frisco tickets from the old Senser’s Plymouth location.

Heagle was a man possessed that game! So badass!!!
This was such an epic beatdown after halftime. GSU buying out the game in Fargo for that 2011 regular season made it even sweeter.

Didn't GSU have a regular season game scheduled against the Bison for that year and they bought it out? I kinda remember Bison fans telling GSU fans if they would have had the guts to play us during the season and had beaten us, they wouldn't be making the trip to Fargo.

Edit: Hando beat me to it.

The day the Golden Heagle first took flight. Also the day the color yellow became known as THE most intimidating color in the electromagnetic spectrum.
