Beyond the Bison ...
Three impressive team performances that I saw:
University of Houston men in the 100m - 6 of the Top 24 spots, they move on to the next round. Top 12 go to Austin (for the championship weekend).
University of Southern California women in the 100m - 3 of the Top 7 times, though it is only the first round.
Brigham Young University men in the 10,000 meters - 6 of the Top 12 spots (half !). They all go to Austin.
Benji Phillips throws 211' 7" on his first attempt in the JAVELIN.
Likely not enough to get him to the finals, but a nice PR and just a Freshman.
After fouling on his 1st attempt, Brendon Artely records a 221' 0" in the JAVELIN moving up to the top spot in flights 1 and 2.
That should hold up well enough to make the finals unless all of the flight 3 guys top it (unlikely).
Artley just barely made it. Finished 12th. Flight 3 had all of the big throwers.
Looking good Billy Ray!
Payton sitting in third in discus with one throw to go.
And he moved to 2nd with his third throw of 195' 7". And it looks like that will be the final result.
JT finishes 39th in the 200m with a time of 21.32.
Done for today. 12 athletes competing tomorrow.
Bison place 3 shot putters in the top 6 of the west region prelims: Otterdahl, Talley, and Thomsen. All 3 obviously qualify for Austin.
