I was shocked when I saw in the other thread here that Walseth got a sweetheart 6 year deal, and now that Kolpack lays it out like this it really pisses me off that they gave an unproven, unknown 6 frickin years. NDSU needs to hire back Dorn just so they can fire her ass. I don't get it, what was Bresciani and Gene Taylor thinking? Yes, Dave Richman has some work to do, but he's not even in the same league of suck that Walseth is. Not even close. Richman only got a 5 year deal, how is this possible to Walseth's 6 years? Neither were HC's prior, but Richman had Miles and Phillips in his corner, and I'm sure their input was highly regarded by Taylor. Kolpack mentions Walseth's pedigree as an assistant. Don't know why that would impress anyone. I asked my girl Shania Twain, she said that don't impress me much. It's not hard to win when you're Penn State and in the Big Ten. Richman accomplished more as an assistant at mid-major NDSU where it's harder to win at, then Walseth as an assistant at Penn State with all of their built in advantages. Richman got screwed on this deal.
What trusted source was blowing smoke up Dorn's rear about Walseth that wowed NDSU enough to sign her up for 6 years? I'm not even upset that they hired her, because who knows what will happen, and to be honest it sounded like a good hire at the time. But this is why you don't sign someone like this up for 6 years!
What extent does Larsen play in all this? Walseth was hired in April, Gene Taylor leaves in June, and this 6 year contract is finalized according to Kolpack in November. Richman was hired a week before Walseth from what I can see. I'm beginning to suspect that Larsen didn't have much, if any say in this.
6 years, I just don't get it. If anyone deserves a six year contract it's the Softball coach Mueller. You know, because he's proven it, year after year.
