St Michael-Albertville with another win, defeating Blaine.
http://m.mnfootballhub.com/news_arti...rrer_id=338086Running backs Mitch Kartes and Desean Phillips led the Knights to a 40-20 victory, their second consecutive thumping in their first season in Class 6A......
......The running back tandem of Kartes, a combination of speed and strength who has committed to North Dakota State, and junior Desean Phillips routinely gashed the Blaine defense.
Kartes rushed 19 times for 178 yards and three touchdowns, punctuated by a 72-yarder in which he not only outran the Blaine defense, he ran right out of a shoe.
Phillips used his shiftiness and acceleration to run for 156 yards and a pair of scores, including a dagger of a 65-yard run one play after Blaine had cut the St. Michael-Albertville lead to 21-14 late in the third quarter.
“We’ve got a nice one-two punch,” Knights coach Jared Essler said. “They’re two different runners. Mitchell has the school record in the 100 meters and Desean has one of the best jump cuts around.”
Essler credited his team’s past, playing in a tough 5A section, for preparing players to step up and compete with the state’s biggest schools.
Excited to see this kid play this weekend. My daughter is going to be in the half time show so we are all going to the game.
Don't matter. FIVE-PEAT!
Kartes is a stud. 3 rushing Td's and a pick 6. NDSU is looking at him as a LB? He looked great running the ball. Easily the best player on the field. He can blase too. His 65 yard run he just pulled away from everyone.
Don't matter. FIVE-PEAT!
Looks like a running back on the highlights, or maybe one heck of a strong safety. Doesn't look like a linebacker-type

Wow, great news. Welcome Mictchell Kartes to BisonNation.
" Our strategy for winning against BISON was simple, we put our WRs and RBs in a 1 on 1 situation with their defense in the backfield.....everybody knows they have some freshman who cannot tackle in a 1 on 1 situation.....Joe Glen"
I knew very little about the kid until I saw him in person last night. First of all, STMA has a hell of a team and you can tell they are well coached. It was a fun high school game to watch. They went down 14 points early and came back with 21 unanswered points. This is their first year in 6a and they are making some noise. Kartes was a punishing runner. He never went down on the first hit and in the first quarter he laid down a brutal stiff arm that looked like a screen capture from Madden. And the second he got into the open, he was gone. The kid has wheels. He had 1 pick six and should have had another interception earlier in the game. He was playing safety on the far side of the field when the CP QB tied to hit a WR in the middle, he covered a ton of ground in no time and the ball when through his hands and plunked him in the facemask. He returned kickoffs and punts and he almost never came off the field. This kid is going to be good.

Impressive kid and impressive team. They jumped up from 5a to 6a and have beaten some good teams. STMA is a legit top 5 team in the whole state. He is the type of player that makes NDSU so good and I'm always puzzled why the gophs don't try plucking these kids out of their own backyard.
