http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/o...ry.html#page=2The Orioles also announced the signings of sixth-round right-hander Jay Flaa and 10th-round lefty Reid Love.
Jay Flaa's signing bonus is being listed by MLB as $10,000
The 6th round slot was for $232,600, so my North Dakota math tells me that is $222,600 the Orioles have to
spend on attempting over-slot signings. Perhaps high school players such as 4th rd pick Ryan McKenna (OF),
5th rd pick Jason Heinrich (OF) and 7th rd pick Gray Fenter (RHP) were promised higher than slot bonus to sign.
But, in the meantime, Flaa has an opportunity.....
Jay Flaa's 1st game was on June 29th against the 7-0 RedSox in the Gulf Coast League, 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 SO

The roster is showing him as being assigned to short-season Aberdeen, so will be interesting to see
if he stays there. Or was this game in the Gulf Coast League Flaa's spring training game and he gets to then bypass the GCL for Aberdeen (next level up). Orioles GCL team is in the same division as the Twins' GCL team.

Jay Flaa's next game was up a level in the Orioles system, getting promoted from the rookie Gulf Coast League
to short-season Aberdeen. He pitched the 9th inning, July 2nd, in a 2-1 loss to the Staten Island Yankees, no hits or runs allowed. The Gulf Coast League tends to be where high school players are assigned after signing,
as well as teenagers coming to the US from the Dominican League for their first experience in country.
Aberdeen and the short-season New York-Penn League tends to have college players assigned to it,
as well as players with more experience, such as already having played a season in the GCL.
She's the older sister Nora Flaa, but she's so cute everyone calls her No Flaa. She's a big recruiting fan and recently got married to to Tim Zone, so now you can call her a No Fla Zone.
sorry, I couldn't help myself, purple all around. (Except for the recruiting part, he's really up on his recruiting.
SDSU coach John Stiegelmeier on NDSU intro video: "This is not meant to be North Dakota State's home game."
Interesting, Jay Flaa gets to pitch the 9th inning again, this time getting his 1st save. 1 IP, 1 H, O R, a 0.00 ERA after 3 games.
Al Swearengen, ahhh, the role Ian McShane was born to play.....although IIRC he was good in The Battle of Britain also!
Gotta watch Deadwood again someday, especially since the wife (mine, not Mrs Flaa) never saw the series.
Had to make one more post on Flaa after seeing Swearengen's pic.....
Time of bump this thread: What is Flaa's status ? Is he attending the Orioles' spring training camp? Anyone have any info on Mr. Flaa ?
