3 and 6 would make or sense (as if the committee would ever do that).
Philosophically, if you're going to have at-large births in a post season tournament, they should go to the best teams. But, in the mean time, every "mistake" they make on selection improves our path through the playoff field.

We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. Could see that MVFC only gets 4 teams to 7 wins possibly? Big sky still could get 5? Didn't analyze to see. They do have 16 (or is it 14?) teams to our 10. Percentage wise that is about equal. If not higher for MVFC? Not sure number of teams should mean anything. If they went by sagarin/gpi strictly then it would be a different story.

This is best I could come up with. Projected end of season bracket:
UTM at Chattanooga vs 1. Jacksonville St
Bryant at Fordham vs 8. James Madison
Colgate at Richmond vs 5. William & Mary
Western Carolina at EWU vs. 4. NDSU
Portland State at UNI vs 3 Illinois St
Citadel at CCU vs. 6. Charleston Southern
Dayton at Montana vs. 7. SDSU
SUU at Central Arkansas vs. 2. McNeese St
The Big Sky assistant commissioner was on local radio tonight. When asked what he thought would be the number of Big Sky teams selected for the playoffs he said "hoping and praying for 3 but it could be 2."
How can anyone project 5 Big sky teams in the playoffs assuming there will be enough qualified 7 win teams? Why would the playoff committee select a 4th or 5th playoff team from the Big Sky when those teams would likely not be in the top 4 of the final conference standing and quite possibly not have played 2 or more of these top 4 teams?
Because they already have 4 teams have a good shot at getting 7 wins or have 7 wins, and with 4 teams at 5-4 there is a decent possibility of at least one winning out. Big Sky has been a top tier conference in the past (tatanka obligated lol big fluffy here) and they seem to have been rewarded for that. I think that is slowly shifting considering the results they've put up in the playoffs the past few years. With some of the top FCS teams leaving for FBS though is leaving a gap at the bottom, along with expanded playoffs. So we're seeing the results of that. With 13 teams in a conference your going to get more just due to having a large conference. I think a lot of them having 5 is based on UN_ winning out and with an FBS win will be looked at favorably as qualified (as much as we like to give them crap here, we made the playoffs in the same manner in 2010).
You look at MVFC there are 3 at 7-2 and 3 at 5-4... How can we project that we should have 5?? We want to beat YSU so that eliminates them leaving SD and UNI with SD playing SDSU and ISUr they will be lucky to get 1 win thereby being eliminated (especially if we want SDSU to not have to come to Fargo the 2nd round...) UNI has a favorable schedule playing @ MiSU and SIU at home. Could easily win out.
It has been a weird year all around FCS anyway.
He is being realistic. If there are enough other 7 & 8 win teams across the country that are in the top 3 of their conference they'll get an invite before a Big Sky team that is NOT in the top 3 of their conference.
The Big Sky had 4 playoff teams in 2013 and 3 playoff teams in 2014. 3 of the 4 teams in 2013 lost their first round game and in 2014 the BS playoff record was 2 -3. The Big Sky hasn't gotten much or shown much the past few years in the FCS playoffs. Therefore, there is no case made for more than 3 playoff teams this year with an outside chance at 4 depending on the number of 7-8 win qualifiers across the country.
