It would be the last time ESPN would be in Fargo, and it would destroy the extremely positive reputation Fargo presently has with them.

Wait racist? So everyone who chants SSS is racist??! Even back in the 70s 80s 90s(early)? Making a bit of a stretch. Offensive to a race perhaps is more correct, but pretty sure 99% of people chanting that aren't thinking of the native American tribe and giggling to themselves saying I can say this because I can pass it off as a rivalry chant.

That said Gameday has handled rivalries before don't think it will bother them.

Last time Game Day was here there was a SSS chant that could be heard on TV. No one cared, there were no stories and the sky didn't fall.

Stealing a verse from the immortal Grantland Rice for the Game Saturday.

Outlined against an industrial span the Four Horsemen will ride again. In dramatic lore they are known as Famine, Pestilence, Destruction and Death. These are only aliases. Their real names are Morlock, Frazier, Anderson and Dunn. They form the crest of the Fargo cyclone before which another fighting Sundog football team will be swept off the precipice at the Fargodome Saturday as 19,000 spectators peer down on the bewildering panorama spread on the green turf below.

You see, there's a constant litany of comparisons made between the schools by fans on both sides. It's also incredibly apparent that the people who deny the rivalry the loudest are the ones who perpetuate it. They're the ones first to howl butthockey or trash the successes of the other school. It's actually funny to observe.
You are talking about entirely different issues. If I were to complain about funding differences between the institutions, is has nothing to do with a football game. The media is the media. I do my part when I feel there is inconsistency by not consuming their product. Still nothing to do with a football game. My support for NDSU has nothing to with how I feel for un_. To me they are just another school that happens to sit 75 miles from us. I have had many friends go there and when we talk about things, the school we went to rarely enters the conversation. They are smart and seem to have done well with their education. I have done ok with my NDSU education. I have more back and forth banter with friends who are Packer fans than those who went to another school.

As far as their football program. They are a bottom half FCS program. This is a tune up and if the Bison are prepared, which I expect, the outcome will reflect that. It could have been any tune up game. As far as the circus, I am more concerned about NDSU fans looking bad than sticking it to another program. I think SDSU has built a nice program and has the making of developing a stronger rivalry. UNI is a rivalry. This game this weekend is about two programs who went in two different directions. There is nothing there but wishful thinking and the hope of a revival. In the end, one program will continue to work towards another championship run and the other will slip back into obscurity. What this really does is give the other program absolutely nothing to talk about. So in the end it could just as well be VCSU which would give the folks of ND an in-state game and reduce the risk of typically responsible people acting irresponsible. I will be at the game because I go to NDSU games as a season ticket holder, an alum, and a booster of NDSU athletics. I care nothing more than the team getting ready for the toughest conference in FCS in this game. Everything else is just a circus.

Beating this team does not change funding inequity, media perceptions, or anything else. Those are completely separate arguments and will continue to be so.

This is about generating excitement about our biggest football teams in the state. That is enough for it to be fun for the alumni, students, and players alike, is it not? Talk championships and superiority all you want, but these schools have historic games that EVERYONE who was a part of them remembers.
Good post! Fortunately the posters on BV are not a true representation of our fanbase! My best friend and teammate from HS played for UND in the early 80's. He lives out of state now but has rooted for the Bison in all our Natty's. He is a ND boy with class and has some common sense. The nastiness is really between a minority of overzealous fans. I don't hate UND, I just don't like some of their fans! ...that being said...I sure hope we take care of business Saturday. If we don't, I don't think I could put up with...some of their fans!

So...the press conference un_, that didn't make you hate them a li'l bit? UN_ telling other NCC schools not to play us when we transitioning...that does not make you hate them at all? Does that make me overzealous or a minority?

I consider this game what it is, a cheap OOC home game. Sounds like Matt Larson sees it the same way and I'm glad. If UND wants to keep coming to Fargo for a measly $140k so be it.

    LOL exactly.

You people who think a SSS chant will be 'NEWS EVERYWHERE' have quite the over-exaggerating imagination.
