That set the tone for EVERYTHING that came after. I will concede that they had a valid reason not to schedule us in 2004. I would also argue that they KNEW the DII rules would change for subsequent years so they could have played in 2005 and on without hurting their playoff chances. A simple call to GT offering to do that would probably have been enough. NOPE. They didn't talk to him and went straight to a Press Conference to announce it AND upped the ante by saying they wouldn't be scheduling in any sport (I don't think I made that last part up/misremembered)

The real question is will the new AD be open for future games. Listening to ML on the radio, he essentially said we are well past the rivalry and in the future we will look to schedule an FBS and top tier FCS. Plan on more top FCS.

I kinda like his vision. He seems to be looking to progress this University to new heights and not just live off of the reputation they currently have.

I wasn't sure about him at first.

Agreed, seems to have a solid view of what SU needs to do to keep climbing. Also I like that he was not a native NDAK. NDakotan's seems to doubt or fail to embrace their full potential especially when it comes to the state, business HIED and the like. FYI, that is not smack, but rathert an observation after living here for 20 something years

I would rather travel to places like Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Colorado, Oregon, Etc. a hundred times before I have to travel one time to Grand Forks for a football game...in fact I probably wouldn't even try to go.

Yeah, gotta give Jeff some credit for calling it like it is. EVEN MMcF has toned it down. Saying it does not feel like a rivalry and that the so called rivalry is more so in the minds of bunch of old men than it is in reality...paraphrasing of course.

Or..............it could be a backhanded way to get the "play-it-every-year" crowd to ramp it up some more. The official directive probably came down from Forum Communications HQ - radio home of UND athletics.

My suspicion is the two fan bases likely see it slightly different. NDSU folks see it as an interesting out of conference game.. UND folks see it as an opportunity to match up against the defending national champion, who happens to be in the same state.

The history certainly makes the game more interesting, at least to me, but I am an old guy... But I can understand it being a bigger deal from Grand Forks. Honestly a lot like us vs. the Gophers.
