What some of us are concerned about is this:
The producer, cast and crew of Gameday like Fargo because we are friendly and have a very positive vibe. The city/university in many of the "big-time" locations now tolerate Gameday, but don't embrace it anymore. Gameday coming to your town/university causes many disruptions. Some cities have grown tired of that. To Fargo, it's still new and the city enthusiastically backs ESPN when they come. And the crowds we've gathered are very positive as well. I get the feeling that the cast and crew feels energized when they leave here rather than exhausted like some other locations.
Now let's add UND to the mix. Instead of a positive vibe from the crowd, the cast has to deal with constant "Sioux S--k" chants throughout the broadcast. The crew is constantly trying to get the crowd to keep it clean. After four hours of that, the cast and crew are drained. The producers and cast leave Fargo this time thinking, "why should we come back here when there are dozens of other places no different". Right now we're unique; after a tough morning, we wouldn't be.
Yes, this is a worst-case scenario. But why risk it if we don't have to? If ESPN wants to come on the 19th, we're certainly not going to say no. But if it happens, I'll be crossing my fingers during the whole broadcast that the crowd doesn't go completely stupid. A few chants here and there would be fine, but chants every five or ten minutes would get old really fast.
JMO of course.
Won't be here this year, unfortunately.
