I am excited about the two high school players but when has an FBS transfer really worked out for the Bison? Purcell and the o-lineman from this years team both left during the year. The kid from Auburn (DE) wasn't a stand out but did play 2nd team. The last one that I can remember that worked out was Stauss but that is arguble...

Now JUCO's are a completely different story...Does NDSCS have any good players that NDSU is after?

Bison06, that is because UND promised Chappel an indoor practice facility and he wouldn't have to go to school......well, he didn't go to school......

Richardson was a huge success in my opinion.

Haha, yeah I am glad that one didn't work out for us. I'll take all the credit for sending him to UND after the way he turned out.

I sure seem to remember Bohl commenting on his show after the UNC game that Walker was not a very good practice player. So, my recollection is the same as SD, but, who knows...

Well, he was a student trainer, so I guess one can take that for what it's worth...I just found it humorous that he pegged Walker as a stud when he only saw him practice his redshirt year.

He was indeed a 2-star Rivals:

He's a big kid now, 6'3" 220 lbs, listed as a SS on the WY roster:

However, he never made the depth chart:

Mike Breske, the DB coach at WY, ex-DB coach that is, and the DC and Assistant HC is a friend of mine. I will try to contact him although his UWY email bounces back.

According to his bio he was listed as third:
"UW This Season: Brian Kuhtz is another talented redshirt freshman who has made his way onto the Wyoming depth chart in a short amount of time. Kuhtz came out of last spring listed third at strong safety behind two seniors -- Michael Ray, the returning starter, and Derrick McMahen. Kuhtz should also have an opportunity to contribute immediately as a special teams performer in 2008."

You know I was thinking about this today (when did we start thinking the 2003 class was great). The answer is: Immediately but we weren't so good at predicting who was going to shine. I hopped into the way back machine and found this thread:

    http://www.bisonville.com/forum/show...?t=5129&page=3

Back then, the first we heard about 12 of the commitments was on signing day!

NDSU signed five Illinois players in Feb, 2003 - I think Joe Mays was the only one that wasn't a Top 100 player. Two of those Top 100 guys never played a down, and the other two were Walker and Drago. I couldn't find the thread but I'm pretty sure that most of us didn't get excited about the 5'11 LB until his first Spring game in which he exploded (remember the int/fumble return in which he carried about four offensive players ten yards down the field - and then got pulled out of the game for celebrating?) I think that's when bisonville posters really started getting on the Mays bandwagon. As for Walker - people thought he was a great signing right way - which proves that fans can't be wrong all the time

Even in that 2003 class with Mays and all, only about 1/2 contributed and a fair number never saw the field (you can see it by looking at the 12 players who we hadn't heard about before signing day in the linky). I think NDSU has done much better at identifying talent since then.

Here's another link to our reactions to the 2003 class (most of the links in it are dead now, unfortunately):
