I am repeating myself on from another thread, but it would seem from Kolpack's article today that Bohl is not looking at bringing in a transfer. Kolpack: "Bohl said he’s not expecting to sign any junior college transfers, although the staff is still on the lookout for a defensive tackle. "

We are hurting for QBs, down the road, to be in the system to take over when Mertens is gone. Mertens is a junior next year, probably a two year starter. Do you really want to have the coaches wait yet another year (no QB recruit the past two years, remember that!) so that when Mertens graduates we are playing a RFr? I don't think so, much too risky. Have a little vision past this fall. I know its hard, but try.

Yeah, typically you want to have one QB recruit each year.

No idea, but Scott Miller said on Bison Feedback tonight that he runs a legit 4.4 40, and was on Michigan's top 4x100 relay team in the state's largest class. Can't remember (was driving), but I believe he also said that Jackson can hit, as well.

Kevin Jackson is pretty fast - it'll be interesting to see if NDSU can squeeze some more speed out of him. Some of the times I saw for him were 21.85 in the 200 and 48.41 in the 400. Those are right around state record times for North Dakota and right around what Marques Johnson did in high school so I kinda hope he is able to go out for track if he wants. Makes me want to go to the Michigan state track meet this year to see how he does.

On a side note, I was looking up times for him and it looks like he ran some cross country in 2006 rather than going out for football.

Kevin Jackson wasn’t under the football recruiting radar last year. He wasn’t even on it.

But North Dakota State saw enough of the 6-foot-1, 181-pound safety this fall to offer him a scholarship. Jackson, from East Kentwood High (Mich.) accepted on Tuesday and verbally committed to the Bison.

Jackson is better known in Michigan as one of the state’s top sprinters. That was why he didn’t play football as a junior for East Kentwood, located near Grand Rapids.

“He was led to believe he was going to get a big-time track scholarship,” said East Kentwood assistant coach Marc Cisco. “So he ran cross country.”

Jackson came back out for football this season. He had 69 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He averaged 32 yards per kickoff return, including a 96-yarder for a touchdown....

you obviously misread my post.

I agree, ideally it would be nice to have a QB in this class. We are definitely not very deep at QB and Mertens will be a Junior already this fall. However, if we don't happen to get a QB for whatever reason it isn't the end of the world. Bohl could bring in a stud QB next year to redshirt and a transfer to start or give some competition for '10 when Mertens is gone. Hell, Appalachian State started a true freshman and won the national title a year ago. Steve Walker played some of his best football his freshman year. Eric Sanders at UNI was the same way. Just a few examples of how things might still turn out ok if we somehow don't land a QB this class.

this kid sounds like steal and exactly like the type of player that can really bloom at the FCS level with a good coaching staff. He's great athlete who has shown flashes of greatness in the little time he has played football.

This looks like a good pickup due to the speed. Hopefully he can hit and tackle and has some good football sense. Players like this can really turn out to be great. If he had played football all through high school he would have probably been looking at FBS scholarships.

Personally I like taking a leap with a DB with outstanding speed. I get concerned when you try putting them at WR. I always think Troy Williamson in the pros. I bet with the some good coaching he could be a heck of a player. Just my .02.

Sounds like a good signing. Probably more of a project with a ton of upside. He's got the potential to be as fast or faster than Burrell, who owns school records, and you can't teach speed and athleticism. He's inexperienced but in only 1 year he's become a very good football player. Probably a good candidate to redshirt.

I disagree with the saying that you "can't teach speed". While it is a great advantage to have natural speed without having worked alot at it, our head trainer could certainly show you statistics to prove that you can teach speed! I believe Mr. Kramer is one of the secrets the Bison have had the last few years. He is why you can take less heralded recruits ( the ones that don't go FBS) and helps turn them into a team that can beat the FBS teams!
