Better get your "yuks" in now. Next fall, the Jims will be playing against bigger and better teams and the crying towels will be out. I can only imagine what MSU Mavericks, Duluth, Augustana, Moorhead, SWMSt, USF, et al will do to UJ. or do they intend to play a JV schedule at first......just to get their feet wet?
Yes, they will be fine. Tom Hagar is the best baseball coach (high school or college) in North Dakota, bar none. I'm amazed that he has stayed at UJ for 25 years. His overall record (with the limited resources at his disposal) of 832-378....that says it all. The opportunities to advance his career beyond UJ have been there, I'm positive. Why he's chosen to stay at UJ and not move on is perplexing to say the least.
Look at the overall records of Minot State and UMary football teams since joining the NSIC; that will give you a glimpse of just how high that mountain is;
going hard after transfer portal players from the regional FCS schools would be the first thing I'd do; promoting the idea of not just playing, but playing right away might resonate with some of those players.
Depending on the sport and part of the country, there isn't a huge difference between D2 and NAIA. The top of D2 is much better, but there is a lot of overlap.
