I've been to Fargo a few time, but have never paid that much attention to my surroundings.
What's considered downtown Fargo, and how far would that be from the interstate?

The 'core' of downtown IMO is Broadway, from Main Ave. to 6th Ave. N. That's where the greatest concentration of retail/restaurants are located. Donwtown extends to the river on the east side of broadway (about four blocks), and the to the west it's a little more difficult to define (I'd say to University Ave.)
Broadway is about 2.5 miles off I-29.
2002jack, take Main Ave east from I-29. Turn left on Broadway (if numbered, it would be 6th St).

Just look for the 3 "highrise" buildings.
