Four New Recruits
North Dakota State head women’s soccer coach Pete Cuadrado announced the signings of four student-athletes that will play soccer and continue their education at North Dakota State in 2005. The Herd landed four prep standouts, including two goalies. Holly Ramaeker from Omaho, Neb., Megan Carrica from Chaska, Minn., Stacey Howell from Edmonton, Alberta, and Karli Kopietz from Champlin Park, Minn., make up the 2005 recruiting class.
“In terms of recruiting we had some things the team needed to fill. We needed depth, especially at the goalie position. The first girl we signed was Karli Kopietz. She’s actually a transfer from the University of Minnesota. She’s played two years at the big time level and was voted the team’s defensive MVP her freshmen year,” Cuadrado said.
The Bison landed a recruiting coup, so to speak, with the signing of Stacey Howell. Howell had an offer on the table from the University of Tennessee as well as North Dakota State. “When we tell people her final decision was between us and Tennessee it’s impressive. They won the SEC this year and finished 4th in the country. To say we got someone who had an offer from Tennessee to come here is neat and a big coup for us,” Cuadrado said.
Cuadrado added, “We’d still like to have one or two more recruits in the future that we’re still working on, but this is a great start. We definitely addressed our team needs right now.”
Schedule
The biggest change, perhaps, for the Bison comes in terms of their schedule. Next fall the Bison have eight homes games, with only two opponents not among the Division I ranks. “This schedule is a lot tougher than the past years. It’s a step up for us in scheduling and recruiting. We play the top two teams in the Missouri Valley, we play both Weber State and Montana, who played in the Big Sky championship this year,” Cuadrado said. Other scheduled road games include Creighton, Iowa, Iowa State, South Dakota State, Nebraska-Omaha.
Cuadrado guided the Bison to a 5-11-1 record in NDSU’s first season of Division I soccer in 2004.
