I loved to see that magical season get what seems to be the national championship for north dakotans. I remember the last 16 secs when und had the ball and that everyone was standing for my best experience in the FFD at the time. Pass was incomplete, 10 secs, pass complete, 5 4 3 2 1 0! last play was a pass to a und WR but he took a rain check and wasnt there to catch it.

Were you in the student section for that game...if so, or if anyone else on this board was, do you remember turning your back on the und marching band that came down and performed at half time...I thought that was fricken priceless.
I was in the band that year....the director was FURIOUS that a guest band would be treated so rudely. *Personally, I thought it was kind of funny. *The next year when our band went to the Alerus some people remembered that and turned their backs to us, but we played one of the best shows of my 4 years and turned'em back around.
Funny thing is, I was one of the people who got the ball rolling on the whole band exchange deal. I was one of the band's student leaders when UND was just starting up their band and a good friend of mine from high school was one of the older students in that group. Over summer break, we talked about starting a new tradition. He talked to his director, I talked to mine, and then they talked with each other. In retrospect, maybe not the greatest of ideas.

Actually, I do think it was a good idea. We always enjoyed marching with other bands and there really were feelings of goodwill between the bands...we fed the UND band breakfast the first year, and they returned the favor the next year, UNO brought us apples (and some good natured smack) when we marched in their house. UC-Davis came and hung out with us at Coaches after the game (and a few of us ventured into their ranks to play with them after the game). The only band I can't remember interacting with was the Bunny Band when they came...I think they game just in time to rehearse and boarded the buses right afterward to go home.

Another funny memory: The band standing in the hallways under the dome chanting "where's the pink?!?" as the UND football team filed past. Their team outweighed our band by several hundred pounds, but I guess we didn't know any better.

Alright, obviously I can go on and on with band stories, so I'll stop myself now.

1990 Pittsburgh State "Gorillas" playoff game here in Fargo. I sat right behind the shivering, chattering Pitt fans on that cold afternoon. Thundar "welcomed" them to Fargo by bringing up a big bunch of bananas that had been left outside overnight. Frozen hard as a rock. Thundar banged a banana on the metal railings as he approached, just for effect. Then he threw them one-by-one to the Gorilla fans. Nice touch!!

Can't even remember which year this was, Thesocalledfan would remember, though. A couple of our buddies got kicked out of the Bison/Firetruck game for being a little drunk. I know they tried to get back in and security wouldn't let him, so they went to the dorm, changed clothes, bought a tickets, and were able to get back in. Priceless.

1990 playoff game against Poly SLO. Snowed heavily that morning or night before and snow was all over the bleachers. I had a friend from VCSU come up and we got into the malt liquor keg very early (anyone remember the smurf drinking game-those that do should know how wasted we were). Got to the stadium and my friend picked up the sticky snow, chucked at some shirtless poly fans, nailed one, and was promptly escorted out of the game. He didn't even see the opening kickoff. LMAO.
