Bison recruits
I've been a bit busy the last couple months so pardon me for the lack of maintenance on the site. I have been picking up bits and pieces about Bison recruits.
First, QB recruit Steve Walker is excelling as a pitcher - they're gunning for a section championship.
Second, NDSU has gotten a commitment from the Alaskan state champ in the shot put, Ben Clooten. He can really chuck it.
Third, Grete Peterson, an all-sport athlete from around Willmar will be playing softball at NDSU. She's struck out 400 in her career and hits .400. Not too shabby. She also excels in track, basketball, and tennis.
Speaking of Willmar, Carrie Jacobson is playing in national tourneys with some other NDSU and SDSU grads (with a Gopher thrown in) and was named the MVP at a national tournament.
Fourth, Walt Gilbert, a Bison football recruit, is doing very well in baseball and track. 14.4 in the high hurdles (that time would have won the ND state championship by a 1/2 second), 45+ feet in the triple jump, and throws 80+ mph.
Oh yeah, not a recruit, but I read some place that Kinsey Coles was going to be running the 800m at the US championships this Saturday.

Re: Bison recruits
Walt Gilbert looks like a real talent. I wonder if the Bison baseball team or track and field team might get him next year. He looks like the real deal. I remember he was being recruited by Big 10 schools; Wisconsin and Iowa but couldn't make the grades to go to I-A. Hopefully, he can get those grades up coming to Fargo. Not saying he will be a pro-prospect, but there was another cornerback that came from the state of Wisconsin that came to Fargo that made it to the NFL, Super Bowl, and Pro Bowl. That was Tyrone Braxton. Just from the talk, he sounds familar to Tyrone.

Re: Bison recruits
Nice article about a football recruit, Justin Frick, who won a state title at the South Dakota state track meet.

Re: Bison recruits
Eric Palmquist, NDSU track recruit, won the 800m at the Minnesota State Track Meet in 1:54 (holy cow!).
Walt Gilbert, NDSU football recruit, took three places at the Wisconsin State Track Meet (1st in the 400m relay, 2nd in the 100 high hurdles, and 3rd in the triple jump). His team won the state championship with only four guys.

Re: Bison recruits
Steve Walker's Lockport H.S. (Ill.) team won the sectional championship 8-4 over Palos hills, but lost 3-0 to Orland Park in the Super-Sectionals....
