How do you feel about Anygivensaturday.com's new look? Note: It's going to take a while for DNS to catch up. I got there via: https://07400457c640-006634.vbulletin.net/

I'm guessing that there is plenty of customization available and they must support advertising so I can keep the G&G collective link.

The Fan Guide and Dictionary would go elsewhere. Hopefully they have a way to link to other sites of interest.

I'm helping out Troy on AGS with admin stuff so I can answer what questions I can if you want to DM me about them. He did handle all the actual work with the upgrade though I'm just helping out with the post-upgrade tweaks and admin controls/settings. Based on what he told me and what he's posted the spam/bot detection is much better on the new vBulletin software which is very nice but it's a whole new set of admin controls and there are definitely some growing pains for admins and users to get used to. Results are mixed leaning towards negative from users there on the changes but anytime the board software changes that much it's probably to be expected. Once you get used to it things and have the styles set accordingly (which users can choose but admins can set the default) things are pretty similar to the old VB software AGS used to be on and that Bisonville is currently on.

Question---why couldnt they upgrade but still keep the old format? Navigating the new format is painful and Im less inclined to spend as much time there. Which is a shame because there is a lot of great football talk there.

I'm not sure if that was possible or not. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't an option and vBulletin forces the user interface "upgrade" if you upgrade the underlying board software. Software developers love to introduce changes that users don't ask for.

They have to justify their job. And they make it exceedingly more difficult. It was like the remote control for my trolling motor. Before everything you needed to do was all on the buttons of the face of the remote. When I bought a new one you had to go through pages to accomplish the same tasks. JFC

It looks different, but I was having trouble picking out what was different. They have a number of different styles to choose from (dark looks pretty good), but the delineation between posts and sub-forums is a bit too subtle for me.

As far as I can tell, the biggest UI change vbulletin made was moving the poster information to the left of the post, rather than having it on top. That's probably a good decision for computer browsing since screens have gone to a wider aspect ratio. That's not ideal for screens that are taller than they are wide (like phones), but there are solutions for that, I think, like tapatalk. And I don't see how you can open a thread on the last page but maybe I'm just not seeing how to do it.

Oh, and the board is more "fixed" horizontally. With Bisonville, if you maximize the browser window, everything stretches horizontally. On the new vbulletin boards, the width barely changes.

Anyway, the upgrades I'm most interested in are security-based. They're not going to update their old versions with stuff like that. I'll play around with styles and see how closely I can match the existing look, but it won't be exact.

Oh, and the board size is more "fixed" horizontally. With Bisonville, if you maximize the browser window, everything stretches horizontally. On the new vbulletin boards, the width barely changes, and the board just centers itself with a lot of unused space on each side.

Yeah, the changes are subtle but kind of annoying. I like the old version of page navigation where, for longer threads, you could skip ahead 10 pages, 100 pages, or to the last page of the thread instead of having to key in the page number on the new VB thread user interface. In the thread lists there are double right arrows (>>) next to the latest post information on a thread that will take you that last post or there are also double down arrows next to the thread title of any thread with unread posts which will take you to the earliest unread post. It takes some getting used to but, like you said, it has many similarities to the old board UI.

EDIT: I just noticed both of those buttons (double right arrows for the last post and double down arrows for earliest unread post) are actually available on the UI for this board software as well - hadn't ever used though before but they become more of a necessity on the new board layout for longer threads.
