Default Thoughts on QB Going Forward

So, what is your thoughts for our starter going forward. One that fits all Bison football criteria run, pass, reads D etc.

I think they give Payton first crack if he's healthy. Accuracy will drop off, but he's a big play guy and I think he'll be fine. Coaches obviously like what they have in Hayes.

I'm on the Hayes bandwagon. If Cole ends up being the guy, Landry needs to call the same type of game he did this year. If all we do is call QB run in obvious situations, it's not going to work against good teams.

I have confidence this staff will make the right decision.

I think it will be Cole. He has shown he can throw, though I’m sure there will be a drop off in passing efficiency from what we had this year in Cam.

If it’s Hayes I will be really excited because it will mean that he has shown something in camp that convinced the coaches he is clearly the guy. He will have to be really REALLY good to do that, I think.

I would like to see Payton/Hayes with one two punch. I see this type of approach harder to defend and is a great motivator for guy guys. Going with two QB's we will see who should have to most playing as season goes on. That compotation will give us the best from both.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an effective 2 QB system.

I was going to say whoever the starter is I hope we don’t swap QBs in and out to try to take advantage of their running abilities.

Cam proved time and again his level of running ability was more than enough to take advantage of defenses.

Please coaches stop thinking having an extra blocker means shit against good teams. We’ve seen time and again that Cole’s insane athleticism can crush middle and lower tier teams. But disrupting a good QBs rhythm and the O play calling rhythm to force a QB run in an obvious situation hasn’t been all that successful.

If Cole is the starter play him as a true NFL style QB that has made our last 4-5 QBs successful.

I do see the like and advantage of one QB but offering some play to a second has its advantages also. Real time snaps and experience for the next year and for injury and being able to be seamless if something happens.

I’m all for it if it can be successful. They did it with Cam and Cole the last 2 years before Cole’s injury. I don’t know that what I saw out of those packages was effective, especially when they were both on the field. The problem with shuttling them on and off is then it makes Cole in the backfield an obvious running down. It seems like you could run play action off of setting that up and get some really explosive plays but for whatever reason we didn’t see much of that. Most, if not all, of the explosive Cole plays were QB designed runs.

Again, if you can do it and it works, great. But if you can’t do it with a QB like Cam, what makes you think it would be better with Hayes?

Cam and QP in 2021, especially the championship game, was a dominant duo.
