The previous version was basically a union job where everyone gets paid the same regardless of contribution level. On top of that there was a non-compete clause. That's quite literally a socialist ideology where the entity in charge controls the access to and means of production. The NCAA maintained centralized control over the commercial aspects of collegiate sports. By controlling the ability of an athlete to be paid for their NIL it basically took the money they generated and redistributed it to the other governing agencies.

Screaming that something is socialist/communist doesn't make it so, just like defending something that is socialist doesn't make it capitalism.

Being a socialist (like a real one that reads theory and leads union campaigns), it will never stop being hilarious to me what Americans think socialism is. Or for that matter capitalism.

That said you are vastly closer than SDbison.

Anyway, let's get back to talking about our local state-owned sports team.

I don't disagree at all. My point is that college athletics was setup more socialist (though not exactly socialist in the traditional sense) before than now.

Another analogy I like is this: if a chemistry major on scholarship set up an onlyfans and made $2 million no one would say a thing. No one would scream from the rooftops that we can't pay our chemists for their name image and likeness.

Give them a football and now it's somehow socialist?

Was college football set up to have luxury locker rooms and player lounges?
It's OK to not be OK.

I mean to be fair, hating (or being afraid of) socialism (or at least what they think that word means), yet wanting it to apply to everyone else except yourself seems like peak late-stage capitalism. So I guess they’re on the nose there.

It's like that in many aspects of life it seems, people end up advocating for that which they were once against.

I expect a lot of the money getting thrown around is going to dry up. Donors will want to see some tangible results. My thinking is that over time it will be a relatively small number of high-profile guys/gals making good pretty good money while the rest dont get much or anything at all.

USC's Caleb Williams recently said he made around $10 million in NIL money at USC. Anyone who thinks this is a positive thiing in College Football is an idiot. Lectures about us older folks not being down with this nonsense are laughable, and you reveal that you are but a child in matters of Life. Congratulations on your ruining College Football. Morons.

Vikings had a better deal with Herschel Walker.

    The kid's a head case.
