Sure, when you have capable runners at QB, it would be foolish not to utilize them. Going back to even the Brock Jensen days, we had designed QB runs that were very successful.

But if you go back and look at those offenses, QB run wasnt the pillar of our scheme. The QBs werent getting 10-15 runs a game. We didnt line up in the gun with a high probability of student body right or student body left. They were situational decisions that took advantage of formations, personnel packages, and tendencies.

For play action to have any sort of success, there has to be a legit threat of the run when we're under center.
This is not 'Nam. This is Bisonville. There are rules here.

If I were a sports book putting odds on who NDSU's leading rusher in the 2024 season will be Cole Payton would be the clear favorite. What I hope is to see more creativity when he comes in the game than in year's past - from what I saw last Saturday at practice Cole looks very good throwing the football (I know that's been said in the past but I've been one of his critics when it comes to that) so I hope to see a few plays where both QBs are in the game or more throws from Cole when the entire defense is geared up to stop him from running it.
