For my generation the cassette was the best option for vehicle stereo. The problem was the sound quality, so we would buy the LP and high quality blank tapes and record a high quality cassette. Naturally the CD was a great replacement for the LP, but at that time they were play only. So when Sony came out with the mini disc, this worked well. Of course it never got traction and took off. I bet most people have never heard of it.

Yep mini discs were an awesome technology at the time. I remember going into a store in west acres, right through one of the main doors, maybe just past where the Grainery was?? They had mini discs and players and you could even get albums on mini disc.
