Don't know of a rumor BUT if he is indeed being pushed out that would mean he needs to find a landing spot quickly. He doesn't seem like the type of guy who wants to hold a press conference and say he's leaving and doesn't have a job lined up. So based on basically nothing my thought was he could go back to Stony Brook in a BS role for a year while he finds something else. 100% speculative.
