Default EWU potential to lower division?

    Per Kolpack in the Forum:

KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington, is reporting the EWU Board of Trustees will be holding a meeting Friday with dropping football to a lower division on the table.

The station is reporting Eastern's football budget is "unsustainable" for a school of its size. The "Strategic Resource Allocation" report said "EWU's leadership needs to consider all options to decrease Football's unsustainable deficit spending, including moving Football to a lower division."

Sounds like they are now staying D1 football but may drop down in other sports.

Is that even possible? Pretty crazy that a relatively top tier team is facing this...

Warning: It is the offseason. Trollolol may or may not be in full swing. Take a deep breath and eat a trolli burger before reading my posts.

There is no "down" in DI from FCS besides "no football".

    Their legitimate options are:
    - drop DI (FCS) FB
    - Pioneer League (non-scholly) FB, but that adds a lot of travel so cost could be a wash
    - move everything to DII and be with Central Wash and Western Wash

On TwiX Kolpack also mentions problems at UNI.

If I remember correctly, wasn't this a possibility for them a couple years back, as well? Or, were they contemplating folding the program entirely?

You're not wrong; it's been a continuous low hum from there for a while.

I know a person on the EWU Foundation board.

EWU is running 6M/8W sports now. That is FCS minimum (14). They can't cut a sport and stay DI.*
