    Default Dick Butkus passes away

EVERY football message board has to have a thread on the occasion of Dick Butkus' death. What a Middle Linebacker is supposed to be. THE Monster of the Midway. One of the greatest football names ever, one of the greatest football players ever. Born and raised in Chicago, played for The Illini, and a Chicago Bear. Terror on the field, Gentle Giant off it. A MAN...

We lived in Urbana_Champagne when he played for Illinois and we used to go over and watch him practice and go to the games. Loved to watch him play.
A little known fact is when Illinois would get in a to a short yardage situation they would bring in Butkis to play center.
If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles"

When you play football, you gotta like the taste of blood, And 50 percent of the time, it's your blood.

It is characteristic of the unlearned that they are forever proposing something which is old, and because it has recently come to their own attention, supposing it to be new.

Small world, me and one of my great grandpas were born in Champaign-Urbana abouit 75 years apart. And when my parents went to the U of Illinois, Butkus was still playing. I was born after he had graduated, the doctor told ma that based on the size of my feet that I could the next Butkus. He was either joking or dead wrong.

He could sure teach a lot of todays' players something about wrapping up! Granted a lot of his tackles were high...but still.
