I would think Hidlay has to be associate head coach, if Obe designates one.

I could see that. I could also see them giving it to Mattingly as he has the most experience and has held the role at the D1 level.

Typically "Associate Head Coach" comes with a pay bump over a typical assistant coach and serves as a good stepping stone to head coaching opportunities.

All yall are much closer to the wrestling program than me. I watch from a distance, but i was there in the 80's when Bucky was rolling. How does this team look for the year given the staff turnover and wrestler departures?

I think it’s going to be a very tough dual season. These guys need matches and experience more than anything. I would say getting 3 NQ’s this year would be considered a success.

Damn, what a difference a year makes. We’ll have one guy ranked going into the season (March). I’m hoping Johnson and Barreto can work their way there by season’s end. Maybe some guys will surprise me.

I would add Drexler to Johnson and Barreto but after that you’re right it will take surprises.

Season kicks off tomorrow at home vs Nebraska. Should be very ugly, especially after NDSU beat #8 Nebraska in Lincoln last year.

The press release said NDSU has 20 true or redshirt freshman and will start a true freshman at 184.

The dual schedule is far tougher this year than Kish's typical soft dual schedules, so IMO, this season will be about improving the freshmen and keeping them in the program.
