The user of the phrase picks a date before they knew anything of what has transpired. Which means any literate person would see his comment and realize he is saying that if you told him before he knew he was going to Northwestern that he would not only go there but all of this other shit would happen he obviously wouldn't have believe it.

Gophers will always suck. Mostly because the entire program from top to bottom inside out still thinks it’s 1961 and they have any relevance what so ever.
In all my years of listening to sports talk radio I can’t think of one time I heard conversation about the gophers other than on KFAN of course.
They’ll never be able to dig down and build that program right because they think they are already in the top tier.

Fleck isn't Brewster 2.0 - not by a long shot. He talks big, that is about the only relevance.
He's much more like a Glen Mason clone. Most years they will be slightly above average record-wise due to weak non conference schedule, win a few easy games in the Big 10, maybe get one upset, and then get an average bowl game that no one will care about.
