Geesh, way to jump on that home field advantage Bison. Tourney play apparently not this coaches forte.

The base running gaff on that double was painful.

Game one of the Summit League Tournament went off pretty much as planned, as ORU advanced in the winner's bracket with a 9-2 win over UNO.

    Then came game two....

The Bison strategy of having Cade Feeney as a rested starter was a failure. Instead, he came out as the other "R" word.

The rust was evident as Feeney allowed 9 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4 in only 4 innings of play. Add a Bison defense that committed a season high 5 errors and some base-running that resembled a Keystone Cops comedy routine and you have the Jackrabbits blowing the Bison out of Newman Outdoor Field by the score of 17 - 4. (Good thing they were at home, because if they were on the road, the hotel house-keeping staff would have to change a lot of linen!!!)

SDSU: 17 runs on 14 hits, with 1 error and 4 LOB
NDSU: 4 runs on 13 hits, with 5 errors and 10 LOB

    Batteries:

NDSU: Cade Feeney, Wyatt Nelson (5), Zac Endres (7), Hunter Rosenbaum (8) and Will Busch
SDSU: Reece Arbogast, Brady Hawkins, Alex Clemons, Dylan Driessen, Dane Toman and Dagen Schramm, Jordan Sagedahl (9)

    WP: Dylan Driessen (5-4)
    LP: Cade Feeney (6-5)

    Home runs:
    NDSU - None
SDSU - Nic Nelson (3) 2-run to left field in the 1st inning, 2-run to left field in the 6th inning, 2-run to left in the 7th inning.

Bison: Will Busch 3-4, 2B (2), 1 RBI. Hamilton Davis 2-3. James Dunlap 2-4, 1 RBI. Druw Sackett 3-5, 2 RBI. Stephen Lund 2B. Peter Brookshaw 1 RBI.
Jacks: Nic Nelson HR (3), 2B, 8 RBI. Dawson Parry 2-4, 1 RBI. Jess Bellows, 2-5, 1 RBI. Reece Anderson 2-6, 2B, 2 RBI. Cade Stuff 2 RBI. Luke Bellows 1 RBI. Luke Ira 1 RBI.

Bison vs Omaha @ 12:05 tomorrow. Loser be done.

Seemed like the pitcher/team got completely rattled after that first inning HR. Then there was that chopper down third base line BARELY out of reach from the 3rd baseman and BARELY fair for sdsu…

they totally had a rally going until that base running double play too. The lead runner wanted to be aggressive and go for it. I believe he would have scored easily. The 3rd base coach didn’t wave him in, which is understandable because you would have had dudes at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. But the trailing runner also wanted to be aggressive, so he kept going after the lead runner already had to double back to 3rd. The most egregious part of it was when the lead runner got hot boxed, the tailing runner got caught too. That sequence ended the game.

Oh well, on to the next one. Win and we likely will see sdsu for the legit right to continue or be done

Started this on the wrong foot, as the Bison lose the toss and are the visitors in today's loser-out game.

Tristen Roehrich (5-6), the Pride of West Fargo, on the hill for the Bison vs Preston Tenney (6-6) for the Mavericks. Peter Brookshaw does for the Bison what Nic Nelson did for the Jacks last night with a 2-run HR in the first to give the Herd an early lead. The Bison add one more on a groundout and lead 3-0 after 1 inning. They add 1 in the second and 1 more in the fifth inning before Omaha gets on the board with 1 in the bottom of the 5th. One more for NDSU and it's 6-1 Bison after 6 innings.
Unfortunately, that's all for the Bison starter and it is going to be up to the NDSU bull pen, which has been suspect all year, to bring this one home in the win column. Mavericks bull pen has been stellar today and has retired the last 11 Herd hitters in the 6-9th innings. The Bison relievers? Not so much!
The Mavericks score 1 in the 7th off of Danielson, 3 in the 8th off of Riedinger, and send it to extra innings with 1 more off of Riedinger in the 9th.

Parker Puetz, projected to be tomorrow's starter, comes on in relief to try to ensure that there will be a tomorrow!!

The Bison miss a golden opportunity in the top of the 10th, as they had a runner on third with 1 out and failed to bring him home. And it's another blown chance in the 11th, with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out and again it's no joy. Top of the 12th and the first 2 Bison hitters reach on singles, the Maverick pitcher Potter misses a close play at third on a bunt by Steil by making a high throw to the 3rd baseman, and it's bases loaded with no one out. Bison catcher Stephen Lund delivers a deep sac fly to left, and the Bison score their first run since the 6th inning.

The Bison win 7-6 ,and it's off to tomorrow, where the Bison pitcher will be Johnny Wholestaff against the loser of game 2 (game #4) today!!!

UNO (0-1): 6 runs on 11 hits, with 3 errors and 11 LOB
NDSU (0-1): 7 runs on 10 hits, with no error and 11 LOB

    Batteries:

NDSU: Tristen Roehrich, Joey Danielson (7), Skylar Riedinger (8), Parker Puetz (10) and Stephen Lund
UNO: Preston Tenney, Wyatt Sellers (3), Caleb Riedel (7), Rans Sanders (8), Alex Potter (9) and Eddie Rosario

    WP: Parker Puetz (3-0)
    LP: Alex Potter (1-1)

    Home runs:
NDSU - Peter Brookshaw 2-run to right field in the 1st inning.
UNO: Eddie Rosario 3-run to left field in the 8th inning.

Bison: James Dunlap 3-6. Peter Brookshaw 2-5, HR, 3 RBI. Cadyn Schwabe 3-5. Stephen Lund 1 RBI. Jack Steil 1RBI.
UNO: Eddie Rosario 2-4, HR, 3 RBI. Devin Hurdle 2-5, 2B, 1 RBI. Cam Frederick 2-6, 2B, 1 RBI. Matt Goetzman 1 RBI

In the battle of the undefeated (GM #4) in the Summit League Tournament, ORU gave the Jacks a taste of what the Rabbits gave the Bison in GM #2, mugging them to the tune of 15 - 2.

Bison and Jacks in the one that REALLY matters at 4:05 PM Friday at Newman Outdoor Field.
