Rolette still has a mall. It's a wee shopping center that connects three of four stores/businesses with a common area in the middle. It was really a nice investment in the community.
And for the record, any relatives I have/had up there are nicer, smarter, and/or better-looking than I am so don't hold me against them.
My dad was one of the original tenants of the mall. My understanding is that they tore down some of the original main street buildings and built the mall in the 1970s. I'm not sure originally owned it, but my understanding is the Small Business Administration provided the loan somehow. With all that said, when I came back in 2005 for the centennial, that mall is a shell of its former self. Rolette was ahead of the curve of malls in general in that they kept losing one tenant after another, and about the only thing left when I was there was the grocery store, and a very limited satellite pharmacy (with just a tech) run out of Rugby.
Bought a McCumber bull yesterday.

Scottie, you say hi to Matt and Chuck for me?
I was on the sprayer and sent the old man to pick it up. My freshman daughter and her friends sure wanted to ride with to check them cattlemen out. Nates worried about losing weight in this heat working cattle for his dad. Lol. NDSU is getting a farm boy there eh. I love it.
