Game one on Friday @ 3:00PM has Cade Feeney (5-4, 4.60 ERA) throwing for the Herd vs Dylan Smith (3-6, 6.54 ERA) on the hill for the Bears.
UNC loaded the bases with 1 out in the second, but Feeney coaxed a double play to end the inning and keep the game scoreless after 2 complete. That score lasted until the 2nd pitch of the third inning, when Stephen Lund touched Smith for a solo homerun and a 1-0 Bison lead. Four consecutive singles by Busch, Schwabe, Sackett and Brookings with 2 out led to a pair of Bison runs in the 5th inning, but UNC answered with 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning by touching Feeney for a triple and 3 singles and the score was 3-2 Bison after 5 innings.
Both teams reached for fresh arms in the 7th inning, with Jayden Brown (0-1, 10.57 ERA) coming in for the Bears and Joey Danielson (0-4, 8,55 ERA) replacing Feeney for the Bison. The Bears got a pair off of Danielson in 7th to take the lead for the 1st time in the game, but the Bison came back for 2 runs in the eighth inning to move back in front 5-4. Closer Skylar Riedinger came on with 1 out and no one on and promptly surrendered a game tying solo homer and it was off to extra innings. Jack Steil's homerun and Carson Hakes run scoring triple make the difference and the Bison win 7-5 in 10 innings. The win streak moves to six and the two teams meet tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

    Bison: (17-26) (11-5): 7 runs on 11hits, with 1 error and 9 LOB

Game 2 of 3 with the Bears offers the Bison a chance to extend their win-streak to 7 games and a chance to clinch another Summit League series. Tristen Roehrich (4-5, 4.53 ERA) gets the start for the Bison and he will face Trey Cruz (1-6, 10.44 ERA) for the Bears.

In what appeared to be a pattern, the Bison score 1 on the first, 2 in the second, 3 in the third, but only 3 in the fourth (they had a chance at 4 but left two runners in scoring position). Meanwhile, Roehrich was lights out, as he allowed 2 hits while only throwing 46 pitches through his first 4 innings, and finished his 6-inning outing in the mercy rule game with a pitch count of 68, allowing no runs on 2 hits while only walking one batter.

In an unusual offensive effort for the Bison, 8 of 9 starters and a total of 12 different batters ad at least 1 hit, 9 different NDSU hitters drove in at least 1 run, and the Bears pitchers issued 9 walks and hit six Bison batters.

    Bison: (18-26) (12-5): 18 runs on 14 hits, with 0 errors and 12 LOB
    Bears: (8-30) (5-12): 3 runs on 7 hits, with 2 errors and 6 LOB

    Batteries:

NDSU: Tristen Roehrich, Hayden Sylte (7), Reese Ligtenberg (7) and Stephen Lund
UNC: Trey Cruz, Zach Herrick (3) Jack Tuttle (4) Andrew Isdale (6), Jake Carvajal (7) and Craig Kenney, Garrett Fischer (6)

    WP: Tristen Roehrich (5-5)
    LP: Trey Cruz (1-7)

    Homeruns:

    NDSU: None
    UNC: none

NDSU: James Dunlap 2-3, 2B, 1 RBI. Stephen Lund 2-3, 2 RBI. Cadyn Schwabe 3B, 3 RBI. Davis Hamilton 2-3, 3 RBI. Terrell Huggins 2-4. Peter Brookshaw 2 RBI. Dallan Quigley 3B, 1 RBI. Jack Steil 2B, 1 RBI. Zach Kluvers 2B. Druw Sackett 1 RBI. Garett Hill 1 RBI.
UNC: Jake King 1-4. Carson Gross 2B. Jacob Banister 1 RBI. Jackson Meier 1 RBI.

The Bison win streak is extended and the series win is secured, but let's go for 8 straight and the sweep tomorrow at 1:00 PM CDT.

Thanks to Da Bison and Road for getting you the info on game 3 with UNC while it was still news. Youth soccer and a dance recital kept me away from my keyboard, but I'll be happy to share some details on the series sweep and the 8-game winning streak that the Bison worked up today.

Parker Puetz continues to grow as a weekend starter for the Herd. Today he stuck out 5 and walked only one in throwing a mercy rule complete game shutout against the Bears, and for the season he has 41 strikeouts and only 14 walks. For the season, he has allowed 19 runs in 51 innings, and in Summit League play he has allowed only 6 runs in 29 innings. Great numbers for a freshman!!

    Bison: (19-26) (13-5): 10 runs on 11 hits, with 0 errors and 8 LOB
    Bears: (8-31) (5-13): 0 runs on 4 hits, with 1 error and 4 LOB

    Batteries:

NDSU: Parker Puetz and Will Busch
UNC: Murphy Geinger, Jake Storey (5), Griffin Webb (7) and Craig Kenney

    WP: Parker Puetz (2-0)
    LP: Murphy Gienger (1-4)

    Homeruns:

NDSU: Peter Brookshaw (12) - Solo to left in the 1st inning
    UNC: none

NDSU: Cadyn Schwabe 2-5, 2 RBI. Terrell Huggins 3-4, 2B (2), 2 RBI. Peter Brookshaw HR, 1 RBI. Jack Steil 2B. James Dunlap 1 RBI. Stephen Lund 1 RBI. Davis Hamilton 1 RBI. Will Busch 1 RBI.
    UNC: Austin Bunn 2-3.
