Default 2024 Verbal: WR Isiah St. Romain

First commit for the 2024 class is Isiah St. Romaine. He is a 6-2 170 from Williston, ND. Very good athlete. Very good basketball player also.

OK, you gotta love this guy - Volsonesque vibes. Here's a story from last year about him winning four events at a track meet, including the 100m, when he was a sophomore:

Athlete of the Week: Isiah St. Romain runs away with State qualification | Local Sports News | willistonherald.com

St. Romain has his eyes set on playing football at North Dakota State University, and said his current football coach encouraged him to use track as a conditioning tool for this goal.
Also, hats off to his football coach for suggesting track.

Who knows if the 6'2" is legit but with him just finishing his junior year of high school he's probably still growing so could develop into a pretty big body to go along with that speed.

With the crop of underclassmen receivers and guys like this coming in you'd sure hope the NDSU offense can figure out how to do that forward passing thingy more consistently going forward.

He plays basketball and dunks with ease, if that helps.

Got to watch him play basketball a few times this past year. His athleticism definitely stood out regardless of opponent.

Didn't he score like 50 or something last season in a couple games?

Go watch this kid play bb against Legacy 2/13 on the PSP Network. 42 pts, 12 boards 6 steals. Quickest, fastest dude I've ever seen in ND bb or Twin Cities between 1997-2001. And he's 6'3".

Drexel Lawson passed away about a year ago,so, among the living; I guess, fastest, and quickest, is now available. God only knows how far Lawson could have went, had he not had to develop at the deaf school in Devils Lake. Without the disadvantages, he may have contended to be an Olympic athlete.

Yah, I was assigned to guard him when I was a 5'9 sophomore, and he was a senior. I guess because he was handling the ball most of the time.
We had an excellent coach at the time, and he taught us a completely new concept. It was called, defense. I thought I was getting really good at it until the Lawson experience. My trying to guard him was ridiculous and absurd. Drexel would just explode off the floor on his jump shots. I had a 40 inch vertical at the time, but he was too quick, I couldn't even get a hand in his face. I could dunk soccer balls or under inflated basketballs, but my getting off the ground was a process, Lawson would just pop up 3 feet in a micro-second. And any of us trying to stay with him up and down the court was ludicrous, and one of my teammates was a sprinter himself. The motorcycle accident was a hideous tragedy.
