That's a real good question! I have no idea what discussions were held between our AD Matt Larson or Coach Tyler Oakes and their counterparts at Oral Roberts, but maybe NDSU was willing to spend some money to face the powerhouse Golden Eagles at a neutral site vs yielding home field advantage to such a formidable foe

    Sarcasm noted.

Just sayin' - BOTH teams being forced to incur travel and lodging expenses in a non-revenue sport is not a winning strategy for anyone involved.

Fail to see how the cozy confines of Doc Ross Field either hinders ORU or benefits NDSU, other than the fact the Bison made a similar pilgrimage to play SDSU a couple of weeks ago.

I'm guessing both sides do agree this solution beats the heck out of trying to pick up the spin of a breaking ball while batting in snow flurries.

Game 1 of the 3-game series began with a bang! And another bang, as Bison starter Cade Feeney surrendered 2 solo dingers in the top of the 1st. Up to this start, Cade had allowed only 5 homeruns on the season. But he was touched for 4 in this 6-inning outing. It was the first time since his February 26th start against Hawaii that he has allowed multiple homers in a game. ORU then rode the heart of the order to a 10-0 victory over the Bison, whose relievers struggled to find the strike zone.

NDSU (10-25) (6-4): 0 runs on 7 hits, with no errors and 9 LOB.
ORU (28-10) (13-0): 10 runs on 11 hits, with no errors and 3 LOB.

    Batteries:

NDSU: Cade Feeney, Carson Jacobs (7) Hunter Rosenbaum (7) and Will Busch
ORU: Jakob Hall, Joshua Caravahlo and Jacob Godman

    WP: Jakob Hall (5-3)
    LP: Cade Feeney (4-4)

    Homeruns:
    NDSU - None.
ORU - Justin Quinn (2), solo to right in the 1st inning, solo to left center in the 6th inning. Matt Hogan, solo to center in the 1st inning. Jonah Cox, 2-run to left center in the 3rd inning.

NDSU: James Dunlap 2-3. Druw Sackett 2B.
ORU: Jonah Cox 3-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI. Justin Quinn 3-4, HR, 3 RBI. Matt Hogan 2-3, HR, 1 RBI. Holden Breeze 2B. Drew Stahl 1 RBI.

Hoping for better things tomorrow when they face off in game 2 at 2:00 PM CDT from Doc Ross Field in Council Bluffs, IA.

Game 2 started in a more traditional way, with each team plating 1 run in the first 3 innings, with the Golden Eagles scoring in the top of the 3rd and the Bison answering in the home half of the inning. The Bison took the lead for the first time in the series with a single run in the 4th and held that until the top of the 7th, when Roehrich's 100th pitch of the day left the ballpark courtesy of ORU's homerun leader Matt Hogan. Skylar Riedinger came in to pitch with 2 out in the 7th to end the inning. Roehrich threw an excellent game and it's a shame that he couldn't figure in the decision. A mental mistake by an ORU infielder allowed the Bison to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, and NDSU took advantage of it to score 2 in the bottom of the eighth inning. A 6-4-3 double play ended an ORU threat in the top of the 9th inning, and the Golden Eagles are no longer undefeated in Summit League play. Final score NDSU 4 - ORU 2!!

NDSU (11-25) (7-4): 4 runs on 8 hits, with no errors and 6 LOB.
    ORU (28-11) (13-1): 2 runs on 5 hits, with 1 error and 5 LOB.

    Batteries:

NDSU: Tristan Roehrich, Skylar Riedinger (7) and Stephen Lund
ORU: Harley Gollert, Cade Denton (8) and Ryan Blackwell, Jake Godman (7)

    WP: Skylar Riedinger (1-3)
    LP: Cade Denton (1-1)

    Homeruns:
    NDSU - None.
ORU - Matt Hogan (15), solo to right center in the 7th inning.

NDSU: Druw Sackett 2-4 2B. Jack Steil 2-4. Stephen Lund 2B. Carson Hake 1 RBI. Peter Brookshaw 1 RBI. James Dunlap 1 RBI. Terrell Huggins 1 RBI.
ORU: Matt Hogan HR, 1 RBI. Blaze Brothers 3B. Jake McMurray 1 RBI.

The series win is at stake tomorrow at 1:00 PM CDT from Doc Ross Field in Council Bluffs, IA.

Game three for the series win was played in better weather conditions than the first 2 games, as it should be for the rubber game and potential tie-breaker in the Summit League race in 2023. Clean-up hitter James Dunlap hits the first Bison homer of the series, a three-run shot that gave NDSU an early lead after 1 inning of play. ORU tied the score in the 3rd on a 3-run blast of their own, but the Bison regained the lead on a solo HR by Druw Sackett in the 6th inning. Parker Puetz showed that he deserves his #3 starter role with a superb outing allowing 4 hits, while walking only 1 and striking out 7, including a 1-2-3 strikeout inning in the 7th, his final inning of play. ORU tied the game at 4 each off of reliever Wyatt Nelson in the 8th, and Golden Eagle reliever Jacob Widener pulled off a 1-2-3 strikeout inning of his own in the bottom half of the inning. A lead-off double by ORU was followed by a sacrifice bunt, and with a runner on third with 1 out, Joey Danielson came on in relief and coaxed a pair of shallow fly balls out of the bottom of the Golden Eagle batting order to end the threat. James Dunlap lead off the Bison 9th with a single to center and was forced at second on a fielders choice by Terrell Huggins. A double play by ORU sent the game to extra innings, and stellar defense by the Bison behind Danielson kept the Herd in the game until ORU exploded for 4 runs in the 13th to win the game 8-4 and the series 2-1.

NDSU (11-26) (7-5): 4 runs on 8 hits, with no errors and 4 LOB.
    ORU (29-11) (14-1): 8 runs on 12 hits, with 2 error and 6 LOB.

    Batteries:

NDSU: Parker Puetz, Wyatt Nelson (8), Joey Danielson (9), Max Loven (13) Reece Ligtenberg (13) and Will Busch
ORU: Brooks Fowler, Jacob Widener (6), Cade Denton (9), Dalton Patten (12) and Jacob Godman

    WP: Dalton Patten (1-1)
    LP: Joey Danielson (1-3)

    Homeruns:
NDSU - James Dunlap (4) 3-run to left in the 1st inning. Druw Sackett (9) solo to left in the 6th inning.
ORU - Blaze Brothers (10) 3-run to left in the 3rd inning. Justin Quinn (5) 2-run to right-center in the 13th inning. Jonah Cox (6) solo to left center in the 13th inning.

    NDSU: James Dunlap - 2-5, HR, 3 RBI. Druw Sackett - 2-6, HR, 1 RBI. Stephen Lund - 2B. Terrell Huggins - 2B.
    ORU: Blaze Brothers - 2-5, 2B. HR, 3 RBI. Jonah Cox - 3-6, 3B, 1 RBI. Holden Breeze - 3-5, 2B, 1 RBI. Justin Quinn - HR, 3 RBI. Jacob Godman - 2B. Matt Hogan - 2B

And it's on to Minneapolis and the Gophers on Tuesday at 6:00 PM CDT at Siebert Field
    Damn, I'm Good!
