    Default Bison vs St. Thomas

Another schedule change has the Bison playing the Tommies in a double-header on Friday and a single game on Saturday due to the weather forecast for Sunday. Here is the preview from the Tommies wesite:

"The Tommies and Bison, originally scheduled to play Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will now play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. Friday followed by the series finale at 1 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. Forecasted rain forced the schedule change. St. Thomas opens its home schedule with a three-game series against North Dakota State. The Tommies and Bison meet for the only series this season.
    • The Bison are led by Peter Brookshaw and Cadyn Schwabe, who are the lone NDSU players to hold a batting average above .300. Brookshaw leads the squad with a .315 batting average, a .615 slugging percentage, 41 hits, 27 runs, 12 doubles and nine home runs. Schwabe paces the team with a .434 on-base percentage, 27 runs, 14 stolen bases and two triples.
    • The pitching staff is led by Parker Puetz who holds a 3.46 ERA in 26.0 innings. Cade Feeney (3-3) has won three straight starts for the Bison and was named the Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week after throwing five strikeouts over 6.0 innings during an 8-1 upset over No. 23 Texas Tech. Feeney is 47th in the country with a 5.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
    • North Dakota State dropped 15 of its first 16 games of the season before winning six of a 10-game stretch. NDSU most recently stole a series-opening win from No. 23 Texas Tech, 8-1, before dropping the final two games, 8-5 and 8-3. NDSU most recently fell at Minnesota, 12-9, on Tuesday, April 11."

Game 3 had the Tommies score 1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning and take a lead over the Bison for the first time in this series. They made that 1 run lead stand up until a Jack Steil single drove in James Dunlap with the tying run with one out in the top of the 9th. But a single, a sac bunt, a walk and an rbi single give the Tommies a run in the bottom half of the inning and the home team wins this one in a walk off by the score of 2-1.

NDSU (10-24) (6-3): 1 run on 4 hits, with no errors and 6 LOB
St. Thomas (5-20) (3-6): 2 runs on 7 hits, with 1 error and 6 LOB

    Batteries:

NDSU: Parker Puetz, Skyler Riedinger (7) and Will Busch
St. Thomas: Evan Esch, Duke Coborn (8) and Charlie Bartholomew

    WP: Duke Coborn (3-2)
    LP: Skyler Riedinger (0-3)

    Homeruns: None

NDSU: Jack Steil 1 RBI. Will Busch 2B
St. Thomas - Joe Roder. 2-4, 2 runs scored. Ben Vujovich 2B, 1RBI. Sam Kulesa 1RBI.

Mayville State set to visit the Bison on April 18th for the home opener.

a low point in program history...

Junior Sam Kulesa played hero on a rainy Saturday afternoon as his single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave St. Thomas Baseball a 2-1 walk-off win to cap the series against North Dakota State.

I'd have to question this bold statement. For almost 20 years we've been told that the low point in Bison Baseball history was that one time when this fellow from Hoople, MN. played for the Bison, but he didn't. Then he used the washer in his dorm and his shirt turned red, but it didn't. Then he woke up one morning after sleeping at a certain hotel with all the wisdom in the world concerning NDSU athletics and claimed to be an expert, but he wasn't. March is over, and that's the truth...
