So, it was the 8-22 Bison vs the 8-22 Gophers. Tonight's game was a perfect example of what a mid-week non-conference game during the heart of a conference schedule looks like. Lots of runs scored, lots of new names, and lots of experience gained as everyone looks ahead to the upcoming St. Thomas matchup. Gophers win by a score of 12-9.

NDSU (8-23): 9 runs on 10 hits, with 1 error and 11 LOB
Minnesota (9-22): 112 runs on 12 hits, with 3 errors and 5 LOB

    Batteries:
Bison - Max Loven, Wyatt Nelson (3), Carson Jacobs (5), Hunter Rosenbaum (5), Nolan Johnson (7), Joey Danielson (8) and Will Busch
Gophers: Cam Blazek, Noah Rooney (2), Noah Deluga (5), Randan Dauman (7), Seth Clausen (7) and Riley Swenson

    WP: Seth Clausen (2-0)
    LP: Nolan Johnson (1-2)

    Homeruns:
Bison: Terrell Huggins (7) - 3 run to left in the 6th inning
Gophers: Weber Neels (5) - solo to left in the 5th, Jake Larson (2) - 2 run to left in the 6th, Riley Swenson (4) - 3 run to left in the 7th, Ike Mezzenga (2) - solo to right-center in the 8th.

NDSU: Cadyn Schwabe 3-4, 2B. Terrell Huggins 2-5, HR, 4 RBI. Will Busch 1 RBI. Davis Hamilton 1 RBI. James Dunlap 1 RBI.
Minnesota: Ike Mezzenga 3-4, HR, 1 RBI. Riley Swenson 2-3, HR, 3 RBI. Kris Hokenson 2-3, 2B , 1 RBI. Jake Larson HR, 2 RBI. Weber Neels, HR, 1 RBI. Sam Hunt 2B, 3 RBI. Boston Merila 2B. Brady Jurgella 2B.

On to St. Paul and 3 with St. Thomas April 14, 15, and 16.

I thought this was another April Fool's Day thread about playing the Goofers in football.

Today's second trip to Minneapolis provides a second chance to collect some Gopher tails. It also provides some work for Max Loven as he tries to find the recipe that he used to excel in 2022. After a scoreless first inning. the Bison scored 2 in the second on a pair of singles, a HBP, an error, and a sac fly to take a 2-0 lead. They struck for 5 more in the 4th, highlighted by Peter Brookshaw's 3-run blast. One in the 6th, 2 more in the eighth, before the Gophers broke through against Bison reliever Wyatt Nelson for a pair in the bottom of the eighth to negate the mercy rule and force a 9th inning. Bison win 10-3.

NDSU (12-26): 10 runs on 9 hits, with 0 errors and 12 LOB
Minnesota (10-28): runs on 8 hits, with 1 error and 7 LOB

    Batteries:
Bison - Max Loven, Zak Endres (3), Nolan Johnson (5), Shea Zetterman (7), Wyatt Nelson (8) Reese Ligtenburg (9) and Will Busch
Gophers: Sam Malec, Camden Capomaccio (4), Cam Blazek (4), Noah Deluga (7) Randon Dauman (9) and Riley Swenson

    WP: Nolan Johnson (2-2)
    LP: Sam Malec (0-3)

    Homeruns:
Bison: Peter Brookshaw (10) - 3-run to right in the 4th inning.
Gophers: Riley Swenson -solo to left in the 9th inning.

NDSU: Carson Hake 2-3. Peter Brookshaw 2-5, HR, 3 RBI. Terrell Huggins 2-4, 2 RBI. Cadyn Schwabe 2B, 1 RBI, Will Busch 2 RBI. James Dunlap 1 RBI.
Minnesota: Brady Counsell 2-4, 1 RBI. Riley Swenson HR, 1 RBI. Jake Larson 2B. Jake Perry 2B. Ike Mezzenga 1 RBI

Next up, the long-delayed home opener on Friday April 29th against Western Illinois (like a broken record - Weather Permitting), followed by Games 2 and 3 of the series on Saturday and Sunday.
