    Default Bison vs Omaha Mavericks

NDSU kicks off the Summit League Season with a 5:15 start vs the Mavericks at Tal Andrson Field in Omaha. Game time forecast is for mid 50's temps and a partly cloudy sky, and a good chance for THUNDER from the Bison bats. Right-hander Cade Feeney (0-3 with a 9.00 ERA, 33 strikeouts and 4 walks) will take the hill for the Bison. He will face lefty Caleb Riedel (1-2 with a 4.12 ERA, 31 strikeouts and 5 walks).

Saturday afternoon will feature a double-header between these same 2 teams, with a shaky forecast for Sunday leading to the decision to move Game 3 to Saturday immediately after Game 2.

The Bison got a great start from Cade Feeney, who went 7 innings and gave up one unearned run while striking out 4 and surrendering 1 walk, as they defeat Omaha by the score of 10-2. The Mavericks scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning and the Bison answered with 3 runs in the top of the second and the score remained that way until the Bison exploded for 6 runs in the top of the eighth inning to put this one away. Omaha scored once in the 9th inning to end the scoring.

    Bison: (4-17) (1-0) - 10 runs on 13 hits, with 1 error and 9 LOB
    Mavericks: (6-9) (0-1) - 2 runs on 6 hits, with 2 errors and 5 LOB

    Batteries:
Bison: Cade Feeney, Joey Danielson (8), and Will Busch
Mavericks: Caleb Riedel, Alex Potter (6), Kai Reum (8) and Eduardo Rosario

    WP: Cade Feeney (1-3) (1-0)
    LP: Caleb Riedel (1-3) (0-1)

    Homeruns: None

    Bison: Davis Hamilton - 3 - 4 with a 2B and 3 RBI. Jack Steil - 3 - 5 with a 2B. Kyle Law - 2 - 4 with an RBI. James Dunlap - 2 - 4 with a 2B. Cadyn Schwabe - 2 RBI.
Mavericks: Mike Boeve - 2 - 4 with an RBI

Schedule change to a double-header tomorrow. First pitch still set for 2:00 PM CDT.

Game 2 of the 3-game set in Omaha began slowly for the Bison, with Bison starter Max Loven surrendering 5 runs, 4 earned, in only 3 and 1/3 innings, making it possible for the Mavericks to grab a 6-0 lead after 5 innings. The Bison got back into the game with 4 runs in the 6th, and 2 in the 7th, and entered the top of the 8th only trailing by 1 run. Unfortunately, that's where the scoring ended and Omaha wins 7-6

    NDSU (4-18) (1-1): 6 runs on 10 hits, with 1 error and 9 LOB
    Omaha (7-9) (1-1): 7 runs on 14 hits, with 0 errors and 10 LOB

    Batteries:
NDSU - Max Loven, Wyatt Nelson (4), Carson Jacobs (6), and Stephen Lund
Omaha - Preston Tenney, Luke Gainer (6), Wyatt Sellers (7), Rans Sanders (8) and Eduardo Rosario

    WP: Preston Tenney (2-2)
    LP: Max Loven (1-2)
    Save: Rans Sanders (3)

Homeruns: NDSU - Druw Sackett (5) - 2 run to left in the 7th inning

    Bison: Jack Steil - 2-3 with 2 2B and 2 RBI, Kyle Law - 2-4 with a 2B, Druw Sacket - 1-2 with a HR and 2 RBI
    Omaha: Cam Frederick - 3-3 with 2 RBI, Evan Satisky - 2-4 with a 2B and 1 RBI, Devon Hurdle - 2-5 with 2 2B, Haiden Hunt 2-4 with a 2B, and Matt Goetzmann - 2-3 with a 3B.

Game 3 and a chance at a series win coming up.

It looks like a lesson learned by the Bison in the first game of today's double-header with the Mavericks, as they avoided another slow start by scoring 4 runs on 6 hits in the top of the first. Omaha starter Charlie Bell (1-1 with a 6.31 ERA, 10 strikeouts and 8 walks) only lasted one inning before giving way to reliever Harrison Kreiling, who held the Herd to 2 runs over the next 5 innings. NDSU starter Tristen Roehrich (0-4, with a 5.33 ERA, 33 strikeouts and 10 walks) was on top of his game, allowing only 2 runs in his 6-inning outing. Bison go on to win the game 7-2 and win their 2nd series in a row 2 games to 1.

Bison (5-18) (2-1): 7 runs on 9 hits, with no errors and 9 LOB
Mavericks (7-10) (1-2): 2 runs on 7 hits with no errors and 7 LOB

    Batteries:
NDSU: Tristen Roehrich, Skyler Riedinger (7) and Will Busch
Omaha: Charlie Bell, Harrison Kreiling (2), Cooper Prososki (7), Brennan Bales (8) and Sid deMayo

    WP: Tristen Roehrich (1-4)
    LP: Charlie Bell (1-2)

Homeruns: NDSU - Peter Brookshaw (8) - 2 - solo to right in the 6th inning, solo to right in the 9th inning. Jack Steil (2) - 3 run to left in the 1st inning.

NDSU: Peter Brookshaw 3-5 with 2 HR and 3 RBI. Jack Steil 1-3 with a HR and 3 RBI. Will Busch 1-3 with a 2B and an RBI.
    Omaha: Cam Frederick 3-4 with a 2B

Next up is a weeknight game on Tuesday, March 28th vs the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Lincoln. First pitch at 6:30 PM. Next conference action is a 3-game set at Brookings vs the Jackrabbits on March 31-April 2.
