He was also the D coordinator for a defense that was middle of the pack statistically this year in our conference and gave up a lot of points.

As I posted on a different thread last night, he was hired to run the Matt Entz NDSU Bison defense, he was not hired to bring the Nick Hill SIU Salukis defense to NDSU. The offense and defense for the NDSU Bison with Matt Entz as head coach are the schemes that he wants to run and he has the coordinators run them they way he wants them ran. As long as Matt Entz is the head coach that is how it will be. That is how it was under Bohl and Klieman as well Bohl went through a bunch of coordinators and his offense and his defense was almost always the exact same. Go Bison!

and you do?? KC is right. You realize that the HC carries the biggest whistle. OK? good.......With that simple little nugget of knowledge, understand this.......an assist. coach as DC, OC, position coach, whatever, does what the HC wants him to do (his scheme of the big Picture) or he's not around anymore. This is not a new concept. The HC can fire those coaches who do not bend to his wishes. You run ME's schemes or his idea of schemes; if not ...... hit the road Jack. It's pretty obvious you've never played the game of college football or spent time around a college program.

Many head coaches bring in NEW coaches for THEIR expertise and new ideas when the current philosophies arent working. You usually dont get rid of a coach and hire a new one to teach the same shit that wasnt working.

Schemes are one thing. There are defensive calls on every play. If how a DC calls a game doesn’t matter why even have one? There’s way more to a defense than the actual scheme.

Glad you have so much confidence in our HC. I don’t. He hasn’t showed me a whole hell of a lot yet.

If defense is Entz specialty where we’re the halftime adjustments in the championship game? They came out ran three plays and scored.

I hope this guy is successful. But this dumb idea that you can plug anyone in because the head coach has a certain system is t how coaching works.

What we really need, speaking in general terms, are coaches who are NOT sheep. Who can play the devil's advocate on play calling and are not afraid to bring in new ideas without fear and to be LISTENED TO. I hope because Jason Petrino is a friend of Matt Entz that they are not thinking and working hand-in-glove. We did not win this year's national championship and we embarrassed ourselves on the national stage. If that lingering memory doesn't still burn for NDSU coaches, Heaven help us! You know what Einstein is purported to have said - 'the definition of insanity is doing the same thing.....and expecting different results." If things don't change around here this year, I am going insane!

Honestly I think it would depend on the Coaches situationally. Maybe Entz wants his program run in specific ways, maybe it’s his D under Braun, maybe it will be Petrino’s now… maybe both? And maybe Entz changes how he coaches specific groups based on the experience of the Coordinator. I know as much as anyone (not much) but it’s likely not as black and white as ALL PETRINO or ALL ENTZ…
