    Default NDSU Roster changes from 2022 to 2023

    With the 2023 season set to open at Sacramento State 4 weeks from today, here is a look at who no longer is on the roster and who might be on the field in California that day.

    One-third of the 2022 rostered players are no longer in the program including last year's Seniors: INF/OF Charley Hesse, C Logan Williams, OF Calen Schwabe, RHP Jake Drew, RHP Evan Sankey, RHP Riley Johnson, C/OF Jack Simonsen, and INF/RHP Hunter Koep. Also gone are 2022 Juniors Brock Anderson (U/LHP) and Tyler Kliniske (RHP), along with 2022 Sophomores Noah Dehne (IF) and Nathan Vermas (OF).

    There are 24 players on the 2023 roster that were also rostered in 2022: Seniors - Terrell Huggins (OF), Peter Brookshaw (IF), Druw Sackett (IF), Max Loven (LHP), Shea Zimmerman (RHP), and Tristen Roehrich (RHP). Juniors - Will Busch (C), Garret Hill (IF), Cade Feeney (IF/RHP), Wyatt Nelson (RHP/OF), Cadyn Schwabe (OF), Chase Neil (OF), Carson Hake (IF), and Joey Danielson (RHP/C). RS Sophomores - Caden Edwards (LHP/1B), Zach Kluvers (IF), Hayden Sylte (RHP), Reese Ligtenberg (RHP), Leland Wilson (LHP), Jaxon Edwards (LHP), and Skylar Riedinger (RHP). RS Freshman - Bennett Freiter (C), Nolan Johnson (LHP), and Andrew Baumgart (LHP).

    There are currently 14 players new to the Bison in 2023. They include:

    RS Junior - Stephen Lund (C) who started 50 games for Gonzaga in the 2020-2022 seasons.

    Juniors - Dallan Quigley (OF) who played in 48 games at Paris JR College, Paris TX in 2022, James Dunlap (IF) who was an All-Conference player for Dodge City CC in 2022, Jack Steil (INF) who spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons at Nebraska, where he appeared in 61 games. Hunter Rosenbaum (RHP) who was 1-1 last season at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley after his Freshman season ay Howard College. Jack Luster (INF/OF) was at Des Moines Area Community College in 2021 and 2022, where he appeared in 53 games. Carson Jacobs (RHP) who stands 6' 9" and struck out 59 batters in 55.2 innings for Gateway Community College, Phoenix, AZ.

    RS Sophomore - Konnor Kirchoffner (RHP) who played 2 seasons at Hutchinson Community College.

    Freshman - Kyle Law (OF) who registered a .415 batting average with 37 hits, seven doubles, three home runs and one triple in 28 games at Andover HS , Andover, MN. in 2022. Davis Hamilton (INF) who hit for a .388 batting average with 36 RBI, 34 runs and two home runs for Sun Prairie HS, Sun Prairie, WI. Kale Jensen (INF) from Central City. NE, where he had a a .552 batting average, .931 slugging percentage and .613 on-base percentage with 11 home runs at Central City High School He also had an 11-0 record on the mound and set the Nebraska Class B record for pitching wins with 11 and consecutive wins with 12. Parker Puetz (RHP) who graduated from Sioux Vally HS and is from Volga, SD. He had a 4-0 record with 48 strikeouts in his SR season. Kale Hopke (LHP) who attended Amery HS in Amery, WI. He set the school single game strikeout record with 19 and single season strikeout record with 117and ended his high school career with 171 K's in 95 1/3 innings. And Zak Endres (RHP) who had 38 strikeouts in 32.3 innings for Lakeville South HS in Lakeville, MN.

    The coaching staff remains the same in 2023, with HC Tyler Oakes, AC Brandon Hunt, AC Tanner Neale, and Volunteer AC Trent Keefer.

    Since it's apparent that you are very well connected to Bison baseball, can you give readers a synopsis/opinion of the coming season? I'd appreciate it. Starters back? Pitching? Bullpen? Any freshmen or transfers you think will start? Any returning players you think will have a breakout year? Thanks in advance.

    Birds eye view the pitching staff should be good. At least at the front end? Looks like we have some pieces back but also lose some key ones. I like bringing in that Gonzaga Catcher.
