Nothing, except a metric shit ton of money.

By having a team in the DFW market, the ACC gets a massive bump in their ACC network media payout.
Automatically part of the terms of the agreement with ESPN and the cable companies.

And in return, SMU agreed to take no conference payout. A bunch of Texas billionaires lined up to finance it.

SMU has a borderline non-existent fan base, no history aside from the Death Penalty, but they whined and nagged and it worked. They, somehow, are in a power conference dispute bringing nothing to the table.

Memphis is a bigger school with a better history and also rich alumni AND BASKETBALL and the ACC didn't even talk to them.

Chapo is a dumbass but on this issue he is correct.

The ACC gets an extra $24 million per added school, the original schools are $40 million per. There is no bonus for being in DFW, and certainly no massive bump.

SMU is only in the position they are in because their administration publicly forced their way into the conversation. If SMU brought anything to the table they wouldn't be going for free.

That said, I'm still not certain this fanbase would get too revved up about a midweek December bowl game after the first one or two.
Yep. No one is going to care about fcs football in the next decade. If we aren't going FBS I'd gladly sell the football program down the river for a ~2010 Missouri Valley type program

Nope. Something not as widely reported is that in addition to that $24m, the cable carriage rates paid for ACCN in Texas/DFW will automatically jump.
Not finding the exact $ value of this at the moment, but its been rumored/stated to be far higher than the $24m pro rata from ESPN. It's a hidden bonus that is actually quite large.

One other factor remains in the ACC’s favor. It can expect a pro rata increase in media rights, as well as an increase in the value of the ESPN-owned ACC Network, now that Dallas-Ft. Worth (No. 5 in the U.S.) and San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose (No. 10 overall) are considered to be TV markets in the ACC’s footprint.

Media markets and payouts were a huge part of what drove the USC/UCLA move to B1G, and also why SMU/Stanford got into the ACC.

This is also what got Rutgers into the B1G, another move that doesn't make sense on the surface, but added massive media payout due to their location.

Didn't see this posted anywhere...."NCAA president proposes new Division I tier where schools can pay athletes."

    https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireSt...sion-105388728

This, to me, would make the appeal of moving from the FCS to FBS a helluva lot more appealing. P5, or soon to be P4, along with any opt-ups, all would be on their own...leaving G5 teams in their own division, which leads to a much more realistic opportunity to play for a national championship, as they don't have a snowman's chance in hell for that, as it currently sits. I can't imagine this not going through...so, if NDSU is wanting to make this jump to FBS, they need to get the ball rolling immediately and start banging down a few doors.

So basically making the P4 a minor league or d league for the NFL...I am good with that, but they have to play each other, no more playing down.

If they play down the G5 will continue to suck their teat and do anything they are asked to do in order to make the powers that be happy. $$$$$$$

I think things are about to get interesting in the G5 world. They may be forced to add another 20 FCS schools.

The P4 are clearly on a track to become a pro style league of between 30-60 teams, with unlimited budgets and spending.

Given some of the P4 are as high as $250m budgets, it may be the floor to really compete is $100m+
