The change was not having to sit out a year if you transfer up or even as an undergrad. I belive it was Spring 21 that happened. That's why you see so many more now.

Looking at the NCAA data site, in 2021, 60% of undergrad FCS players who entered the portal remained in the portal. Only 29% transferred and received a scholarship. The remaining 12% transferred to another school but did not receive athletic aid. FBS was 33% didn't transfer, 57% found a new scholarship home and 9% found a non scholarship home. And the number of transfers were almost twice as many for FBS (997) as FCS 560). This tells me that year FBS schools were more of a feeder than FCS by a significant margin.

OK so multi year scholarships are available at the discretion of the institution but not required. So it sounds like they can tell pretty much any athlete to take a hike whenever they feel like it as long as they haven’t made a completely optional longer term commitment to them.

Going FBS won’t fix it, We need NIL deals that compete with the P5 schools otherwise we will say see ya to our best players every year

Let’s not forget Bohl in WY, just because they are FBS doesn’t mean he isn’t losing his best players too. The P5 is poaching his team just as bad or worse than any FCS team. He still managed to have a winning season.

    Default Transfer Portal

Weird why SDSU isnt losing their best players. Asking for a friend.

Sorry but I believe this is part of the Entz failure. Apparently these kids arent buying what he’s selling.

Epic failure to lose this many quality starters

When did you become a Bison fan? My bet it was after 2007. A real fan will always be a fan regardless of FCS or FBS!

That simply is not gonna happen. So not worth bothering. NDSU can't lock horns with schools financially that have much bigger alumni bases, fan bases, etc in NIL. That's just not going to work out.
