When you play football, you gotta like the taste of blood, And 50 percent of the time, it's your blood.
It is characteristic of the unlearned that they are forever proposing something which is old, and because it has recently come to their own attention, supposing it to be new.

How long before there are actual contracts between players and schools? And then holdouts and trades? Should be the next progression I suppose

We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie
And then at some point, why does it have anything at all to do with colleges?

It's professional. Club sports will reign in the future. They'll continue to offer things like music, art, and drama... which actually benefit more students anyway.
If you wore the uniform...you're a champion.
I agree the college model is going the way of the dodo.
This happens in real life all the time. Why not expand it to football?
The 'Build Dakota Scholarships' is a tool for a business to sponsor a student. In return the student is obligated to work for that employer for a period of time.
It's not such a strange concept.

I think we can agree that society (not just kids) need a refresher course in loyalty and honoring your commitments.
Audit has made some going points in the past about comparisons to club football. Probably the best we can hope for at this point. I’ve been somewhat hesitant about it in the past as I think it completely ruins the “kids going to school playing ball” aspect but I’m ready to stop kidding myself about that.
It’s pretty much what everyone is asking for anyways. That the smaller schools receive some kind of compensation for having the rights to a player in the league. Finders fee, compensation for training, etc. whatever you want to call it.
The “schools” pay the player for their services, not using this strange money under the table setup. Actual rules that are enforceable and can act as a deterrent against cheating. A transfer window that works and the ability for kids to participate in spring ball without having to bail in the previous fall.
Of course this would cost the big schools money so it’ll never happen, but hey a girl can dream can’t she
