Barring some type of meltdown...the Pennig OT from UNI sounds like he might be a first round pick.

I actually expected more from him versus the Bison last fall. Maybe I missed something.

You didn't miss anything. He got beat and had 3 or 4 penalties between false start and holding.

I'm still perplexed how their running game was so bad in 2019. They had Spencer Brown (who started 10 games for the Bills this past season) and Trevor Penning (likely 1st round pick) as their starting OTs and first team all-MVFC OL Jackson Scott-Brown on the interior yet they only averaged 3.1 yards per carry that fall. Something doesn't add up... maybe Brown and Penning greatly improved or maybe the UNI coaching staff is just garbage.

The Crypt Keeper just ain't an offensive mind. They've always had trouble fielding a well-rounded, balanced offense.
    Insert something clever here...

There are TEAMS in every sense of the word, and there are collections of individuals. UNI struggles to build TEAM to the level of most of the MVFC. Kinda their MO. Their talent is often top 3 in a 5th place finish. MN has often been the same as UNI, where the concept is, we should win the west because we have the best talent, but not understand well enough the concept of high level TEAM, trust, brotherhood.

In 2022 NDSU, following the loss, really came together as a Team. That alone rolled Montana State. You take a committed TEAM into a high level FBS environment against some good talent trying to find its way that’s semi-United . . . Well it’s too obvious to require elaboration.

Christian Watson interview was telling about the level of TEAM he experienced, and what it can do. He talked about going from trying to get his (stats/td’s/etc) to doing Anything (blocking/cheering/building up) for his teammates. He got to where throwing a block and escorting Kobe to the endzone was as big as a high as scoring himself. Very high level TEAM, and very cool.

Has anyone seen draft round predictions for Volson and Watson?

Watson a day 2 pick, which means rounds 2-3. Volson a day 3 pick. Rounds 4-7.

Football is probably the most team oriented sport. Most players are only offense or defense so at best they impact less than half the game (including special teams). You could have the best QB but if you don't have an OL or good receivers it won't matter. You could have a great line, but if you don't have a RB who can read and attack holes it won't matter. All it takes is one player to mis-execute on a play for the play to fail. Everyone has to be on the same page and executing.

As an umpire I hear a lot of the communication between players especially on defense. The better teams generally know what to do on every play and there is no confusion. Teams that struggle often argue about who was supposed to do what or have a lot of confusion just before the snap. I often hear a LB ask, "what's the call?" but not nobody has time to tell him the call. He may have an idea because of the offensive formation and the defensive formation. But he could still guess wrong and miss an assignment. Whenever a QB is sacked or a runner is tackled for loss the lineman always ask, "where did he come from?" There is usually an argument after a chop block (high-low combination) between linemen because one of them missed their blocking assignment. One game it escalated to plans to meet in the parking lot after the game to "settle" it. That's not a good sign for a team. They weren't very good.
