I had never heard the rule about the QB being the only one allowed to take a snap once his hands are under center, is that accurate?
Could be wrong but after spending 10 minutes with the nfl rule book this doesn’t appear to be a thing. Could be buried somewhere but didn’t see it in what I thought were the obvious places.

We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie

I've never heard that rule at the NCAA or NFHS level. If it existed at one time it was before i started officiating 20+ years ago. I'll ask my NFL friends if it exists there.

That’s what I thought but figured I’d ask the expert. Thank you.

Checked with one of my NFL officiating friends, and he said it's not a rule in the NFL either.

This play was discussed already, but it wasn't specifically listed as a foul at the time although probably would have been supported if called. Steve Shaw, supervisor of officials for the CFO, has issued an interpretation that says a QB making any gestures to the sideline indicating there is an issue preventing the snap will be flagged as unsportsmanlike conduct against the QB. He referenced rule 9-2-2b which is for using a substitution or pretended substitution to confuse opponents. I expect we may see something more specific to make this a foul next year. I was surprised it wasn't already there because it is specifically called out in the NFHS rule book.
