To be blunt the lack of ticket sales for the best team at this level can be attributed to the fact FCS has lost it's appeal. Bison fans have seen this and done that and the FCS really isn't that big of a deal. We all know this Bison program belongs in FBS and until this happens interest will fall off. Either that or the team will slip into mediocrity. Real leaders would have found a way to get the move to FBS done when the program peaked. ML and DB are worthless so the football program will just slowly go down, first fan interest, then player attitudes and performance.

I don't even know where to begin with the things that are ludicrous about this statement.

I'm not the one who thinks the NCAA has the ability to mandate membership to 2nd rate conferences.

Still waiting on that "options available to us" piece of the puzzle. Seems important to this entire discussion. Maybe that's just me.
Just because you are sheltered and have only seen that term here, doesnt mean its not legitimate lol. It means arguing against a point that no one is arguing FOR. Its beating up on a point that is irrelevant, doesnt exist, or something that no one is supporting in the first place. IE "We need a new stadium!!!!" actually, no we dont. So bringing it up as a reason to not go FBS is a strawman

The options are go independent, get invited to a conference. And we arent getting invited to a conference for reasons we cant control.
To say Going independent is NOT an option is dishonest, as it IS an option. Not a guaranteed option or the ideal option, but it is a possibility
    1. The FCS was the Best option for NDSU for a very long time.
    2. As a general rule- the FCS sucks at football and has proven that is not committed to football at all.
    3. It's time to go FBS

Because of the high level of competition in FBS. The good guys survive and the lesser ones transfer/drop down to a weaker FCS. Just the nature of the game.

On the road? It will mean NDSU will need to be consistently a top 20 team for it to win 10-11 games a season.
    Has someone looked at this?
    https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources...etics-database
Look at this tab- Median Generated Revenues Trends for Division I Schools
Also this- Where the Money Comes From (Revenues), Where the Money Goes (Expenses)

It's going to be very hard for NDSU to compete with the big boys. At best it becomes the new App State, Coastal Carolina then get your coach stolen away. Once the winning tradition is gone you become another Nebraska.

Saying all this the only option for NDSU is independent. Especially if it can sign some kind of 2 for 1 agreement with B10, B12 and 1 for 1 with MW, MAC. Just the money is going to be very hard to come by. Basically, IMO NDSU is close to maxed out already with how much the Fargo community can support it.
This argument is so week. You need a larger stadium so you can host upper level G5 and low level P5 schools. Boise/KU/Fresno/Colorado State/Army etc don't travel to pud stadiums. It also keeps the price of tickets down for families and new fans since their should be "nose bleed" seats available. They are the future students and alumni who may give back. Having a sold out season ticket base where the average age of the primary holder is 58 doesn't help grow the brand. It's crucial from a revenue perspective but you end up with Notre Dame like home game. 28k-30k would serve us very well. 20k season tickets, 3500-4000 students, with the balance being sold as $20 GA upper deck seats is ideal.

The problem is that none of this pencils out. Paying for it is very problematic.
